I see on Fender's website that the Mexican guitars with pau ferro fingerboards are $25 more than maple ones. I thought the extra $25 on rosewood ones was to pay for the extra paperwork and permits for rosewood required by the new CITES regulations. Fender switched to pau ferro to get away from those restrictions, because pau ferro is not subject to CITES. So, shouldn't the prices drop back down to the same price as maple board models? Typical greedy, corporate mentality. Shame on you, Fender!

Considering the extra machining, and laqbor required to the neck, and to make the fretboard, then glue it on to the neck, i say that $25 is not much to pay for the extra work. Or did you just want to complain about something that you know nothing about?

+1

The fall fashions in designer sunglasses are nearly upon us and Bono needs a dozen of each style for his upcoming tour.

The two-wood necks should always have cost more. That they were the same price before was probably for competitive reason, and didn't reflect costs.
At least pau ferro is a wood, unlike Richlite(tm)...

I see Fender is going to be using Pau Ferro instead of rosewood ( Pau Ferro wood that has been the fretboard for the Stevie Ray Vaughn Strat)
Here is an article from fender but as far as I see they do not mention the extra $25

Torrefaction makes wood far harder and less prone to shrinkage and expansion, but also more brittle. Softer, cheaper and more readily available woods can be used, like silver maple instead of hard maple normally used for necks. I don't know what Fender is using - most guitar manufacturers are not very good at documenting wood species, and Fender is no exception.

Personally, I prefer well aged air dried wood, but that is far more expensive, and harder to come by these days.
