.......My PB is still working.

They must have missed you, or maybe just haven't caught up with you yet.

In any event, the following site, which I have been using for the past year, is much more user friendly than PB:

Well . . . originally my cable provider (Shaw) had a blanketed agreement with customers to provide several free Gigs of basic photo storage without ads along with it's Internet service.

That came to an end for every subscriber a little over a year ago; but, when that happened, several months prior notice was given to retrieve photos. No reduction in service costs though as they waffled with the concept that it was a courtesy and not an inclusion as believed for many years. No option became available to pay for storage. Good while it lasted.

What I usually do for posting pics, since I have a Gmail account, is upload pics to my photo section for Gmail, right click and open image in new tab, copy the image address, then post it here using the IMG link they have. I'll also do the same thing with an image on the web, but I don't usually have to download it, just open the image in a new tab. For the most part, it does seem to work, especially if everyone else can see what I've posted. Sometimes it might not work right, but at least I don't have to deal with this aggravation. I do make sure to have a copy of everything I want to keep offline, in case something happens with Gmail, like this situation, or whatever.

Now that's easy enough - thanks for sharing!

I think it does work, I've did that recently when I got a new Squier P Bass and everyone seems to have seen the pic that saw the post.

There are major factors which led Photobucket's decision to encourage customers to upgrade their account with $400 upcharge in order to keep the site in business. This move caused frustration among die-hard users, forcing them to switch on alternative picture hosters such as Imgur and Flickr.

Flickr was recently acquired by Verizon; therefore I wouldn't be surprised if Oath imposes a similar policy in the future.

I deleted my account on Pb. It said it would take two days to close.

I'll use Flickr from now on.

An interesting point has been brought up—Photobucket. I never could understand why a company as big as Fender could not host pictures themselves. Such a pain for people to try to post pictures. I have always used my own server to host my pictures on here, but it took some doing. The Gmail/Google drive is maybe a bit better as being friendly... But as one reads the forum, so many newbies come and go do to the lack of just uploading a simple picture to a thread. Honestly, drives me nuts.

I was just looking at the forum tonight and in 3 threads I opened, people were asking questions but had no idea how to post picts about what they wanted to show. Fender should fix this as it is killing the forum. I know there are some issues about having to monitor picts, but really, even using Photobucket or some other host, a person could put up something offensive. Fender just needs a "report" button for pictures.

Now with the advent of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, posting picts is so easy inside those medias. I moved over to hosting, not only on my own website, but an interactive Facebook page where people can ask questions, see builds, and look at high rez picts of cool guitars. Much like what I use to do on here. Who wants to take the time to go back and forth cutting and pasting links of picture just to get them on here?

And now Fender has this pop-up screen advertising their new "Fender Play." It has popped up about 12 times so far this one visit, which has been maybe 10 minutes in length! Who ever liked pop-up windows? One reason so many web-browsers put in pop-up ad blockers! It makes being on this Forum unpleasant. I do not mean to be griping, but it does seem people are not using this forum as much as they use to and unless it becomes more user friendly it will continue to loose users. Maybe I am wrong... IDK. THOUGHTS???

Xhefri:

I agree that it would be beneficial to have Fender Forums host pictures.

Not only is this easier, but, in my case, I no longer have need for a lot of those social accounts like Facebook. Some services like Photobucket and even everybody's go to Google (which is dang if you do, dang if you don't) carry baggage that I prefer not to carry. Others have a use, need, or desire to use them, and I can see where that is beneficial (with disregarded disadvantages).

When I can limit and direct my connection to my presently registered services and companies on the Net (including apps), I try to narrow choice using a familiar or presently used group or business when I can. It might be a software feature option such as photo storage tied to a photo editor or a phone/tablet Cloud combo or something similar. Not always, but at times, it is possible. Basically, I don't open the door to all strangers when I don't have to, unless it is the nature of the beast. The Net overall serves me just fine without my old use of My Space, Windows Live, Newsgroups, and many of today's offerings. That is not to say I would not or will not consider them, but they have a better chance without the fluff I don't require. Technical hoopla isn't going to ring my bell. Been there. I have a history of computer savvy and I don't play with all the toys just because they're in the box. I may have tired of some of them anyhow. There are some cool ones that I've found use for, however. 8)
Sure, I miss out on a lot of goodies and features (many of which are available offline), but these services lost out on me when they thought I would fall into line by giving me little or no option but to join the crowd. My OS is Windows (PITA), Android (not a fan), and iOS (to help manage other iOS rated gear, but I have never been an Apple fan). I could care less about brand, but more about "Does it work for me?" That said they are all good and they are all imperfect, IMHO.

I know I'll have no choice some day, and with the bundling monopolies and dangling the carrot of social services I can see where it is going. Good for some, ugly for others, and, along with proposed legislations to control the Web, early adopters and trend setting without weighing the disadvantages, the full frame picture we want may not be pretty in the end.

Once again, I vote for KISS and Fender hosting photos.

I can't speak for Fender, but the fact that companies entice you with offerings to join a social group like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Snapchat, or any similar site, there may not be a desire to create a photo hosting service at home base.

I'll still make an effort to add photos sporadically need be.

YMMV
