Back in the early 2000's, someone turned me on to "Carolina Beach Music" and I liked it
a lot.

Does anyone remember or know about Carolina Beach Music?

I agree Mark. Steve gets some great Tele tone and I like the arrangement.

I'm not sure if Summertime by Booker T. reminds me of a Polynesian restaurant or Burlesque. Whatever the case, Mike, like Marky said it is a great version.

California Sun, SBLS - Good one.
Got me thinking of Ol' Sol.

I hadn't heard Be Thankful For What You Got for some time (Diamond In The Back was the B side). Thanks, for bringing it back, Mike. Many awesome vibes and artists from those times are missed.

I agree that both versions are acceptable. Except it has been documented that Curtis incorrectly gets credited for singing the song whereas he did not. William DeVaughn is responsible for the recording we know and love. Curtis did have an influence in the content and song all the same.

I'll give William the respect he deserves, but for me, Curtis is my man; but, only because he moved me like Marvin and set the path for others. (I highly recommend A Tribute To Curtis Mayfield album).

It's not clear if Curtis had announced the misconception of artist credit for Thankful For What You Got as reported. The time when this mixup first occurred will dictate the possibilities. 8)

I agree, FSB, and really can't say which version I used to hear cruisin' around.

Also for whatever reason, the song also reminds me of summer:

Nice performance and post, Mike.

This next song sounds so much like Cisco Kid that you'd think War did it. Actually they did. :P

Coulda been the B side to Cisco Kid or the other way around.

Factoid: Summer also meant school was out and more time for movies. As a kid I got to meet most of my cowboy heroes. Two of them were Cisco Kid (Duncan Renaldo) and Pancho (Leo Carrillo). Later my dad told me Leo Carrillo had been the Cisco Kid when he was a kid! Well, I guess that means I met two Cisco Kids at the same time. :P

That was a treat, Mike. Wish I could say that I was young enough to not remember that crawl at the end of the video. I could say I remember pulling graphic cards before getting a hand turned crawl before getting a motorized crawl before electronic graphics. I could say that, but at my age I don't remember any of that. :P Even if I could remember I wouldn't admit it. I heard that's how it used to be done though.
