Not nearly as much as they are of me with my seven-figure portfolio of cash instruments and precious metals.

Are you sure you're not just jealous that old hippies still (a) have hair, and (b) get some...

While agricultural investments show a lot of potential overall , there's still an element of risk which at my age I no longer care to assume.

Do the math:

Seven figures *cash*, with an FDIC-guaranteed ROI of about 6.35% per annum. And I don't even need to get out of bed to check my mail box for the dividend checks thanks to the miracle of EFT.

LIFE IS GOOD......

Yes, but life isn't forever. Financial instruments are only worth what you purchase with them. Every dime left unspent when the grim one reaps his harvest is not doing the former owner any good.

Spend your assets while still young enough to fully enjoy what you spend it on. Leave behind nothing but fond memories.

Pretty sound advice guessing that, once the Grim Reaper puts us in a home, there are no pockets.
. . . and hope that the trillions in national debt doesn't upset the apple cart before that.

To be honest, I'm not too worried about that. If things go pear shaped, I have already had a very good run, and lived through more awesomeness than most. I'm more worried about those who are children now. Hopefully, the generations in-between us and the kids can sort things out, but I am worried.

Trust me, I spend *PLENTY* (as the few forum members here who have actually been to my home will attest). I want for nothing.

But I do have one goal that will transcend my passing and that is to keep my granddaughter out of the student-loan trap when it's time for her to attend college. And that goal is now handily achieved.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Aw, you're too kind. Until I joined the Forum I thought I was a kid. Then I didn't. Then I remembered Jagger and Keef.

I'm glad to hear that (really)! I've seen too many scrooges who work all their life and all their retirement being frugal and miserly, working on their investments. Then they die as multi-millionaires, but having had no fun except counting. Their families are ruined by fighting over the assets. Few things bring out the base behaviour of people more than inheritance.

I spent a lot of my younger years (and money) travelling, and that gave me plenty of great experiences and memories. These days, I buy things that I like, without worrying about how it will depreciate or whether there's a cheaper alternative. Happiness comes first now, cause I won't be around forever.

And yes, there are a couple of young ladies who will get some of what I leave behind too, as long as they lie to me and pretend they like my hippie music :)

"Hippie music"?

Here you go (warning: brief nudity)......

Put some fresh water in your hookah and light up that incense.

Hey, Art. I won't lie to you. And even if I did, I really do like your hippie music. And yours too, Arjay.

FSB
Those videos and photos always impress me because when I and a buddy stood under the Haight-Ashbury sign some annoyed hippy came over and said, "Don't take pictures around here, man. We don't take pictures of your home." Okay. We got it on our one chance to do it. So much for peace and love. Funny thing is though, when our film ran out taking other non-hippy photos, we had lots of tripped out happy volunteers with the opposite attitude. They wanted us to tune in, turn on, hang out, and join the movement. I might have owned a bakery full of brownies.
