At the risk of making this thread even more morbid.... when my wife found a lump in her breast 5 years ago I bullied her into getting it checked out immediately, just in case (she wanted to "wait and see"). I was fully expecting to be told it was nothing to worry about, but it turned out to be breast cancer. Not nice, and I won't detail the years that followed, but the point is that, 5 years later, she's not only still here but is fit, healthy, active, and still gorgeous. Not all the women we met along the way made it - the bullying may well have saved her life.
If you need to act, act quick.

That is what I was doing today. It's part of growing up and taking responsibility for yourself. I'm fortunate to have a doctor that cares enough about his patients to tell them they have to get checked every year.

It's been over two years for me. I know it's hard and scary but it is also a mind game and taking control of your fears.

Thanks for caring to all.

I wish I was making this up but I'm not. Both my parents died of cancer. Consequently, you could say I'm somewhat at risk. My insurance plan does not cover annual physicals or what they call, "wellness checkups". So, I literally have to have something wrong with me first before I can see a doctor and even at that, there's still no guarantee my plan will cover the problem and to what extent if they do. They don't even cover anesthesia for any reason, claiming it is an unnecessary 'luxury'. And of course, let's not forget that co-payment before the doctor will even see you. They also impose annual deductables and do not cover ambulances. The first 5 days in a hospital, I have to partially pay for too. Yes, I have to pay a lot of money every week for this 'security' but its all I can afford. Isn't life grand?
