i have had a few strats in my life,,loved them all.
i am giving serious thought into buying a 1979 25th anniversary strat,,
in 1980 the original owner decided to have her silver body shaved,,only he knows why.
but in its place became something beautiful..
her natural wood grain makes her look so amazing,,which is good for me because silver is not my color and the anniversary wording around the contour is not unlike the wording on the back headstock of a prs SE,,unnecessary and ugly..i think she looks great,,but the question is,,are the legends true about how late 70s strats were terribly sub par..seeing that my beast gave rebirth to the 4 bolt ons is there a chance that there was more attention paid to the 25th anniversaries where quality is concerned,,

I had a 25th Anniversary model years ago and it was one of the best sounding Strats I've ever owned. Fit and finish were as flawless as can be expected for a production guitar and if the damn thing weren't so heavy I'd still have it (it weighed close to eighteen pounds). The body was northern ash which is significantly heavier than swamp ash.

hi arjay

18 pounds.
my god are you certain..
could it be that some 25th anniversaries were less
on the youtube video the man playing says that it was 11 pounds, and the friend selling it to me took a photo of the scale and i saw that it was just a weee over 9 pounds,,18 pounds to me seems too much beast for a guy who loves to play but not a real pro..ive seen kids on youtube who have more professional fingers then i do..lol..but yes i love to play

could it be that some 25ths were heavier then others,,i sure hope so,,but id love to send pictures to everyone here and show her,,i wish i knew how

I weighed the sonofabitch on a calibrated postal scale.

Eighteen pounds.

Five pounds more than my '78 Les Paul Standard.

If Pete Townshend had had one of those, it would have been his back that cracked, not the guitar.

18 lbs. is nothing. Being a Northerner too, I weighed 18 lbs. once. Don't ask me what I weigh now. 18 lbs.?! Holey Crap, Arjay.
