These recordings remind me of the DVD were B/G is with GE Smith and the saturday night band, I think they call it the "real Deal'.

raw and full of Fire !!!!

its so cool when buddy gets that look on his face and you know he wants to express himself and just cant find the words and so he gives it to you via whatever axe is in his hand, you know your about to get the STUFF!!!!

How does it compare to his Sweet Tea album of a few years back?

Anyone?

I just got back from Best Buy with the Buddy Guy "Skin Deep" CD.

It's fantastic! There are only a few Artists that I'll buy a CD blind. He's one of them. Great CD......I love it!

I'm listening to a couple of more cuts from the CD. All I can say is WOW! He outdid himself on this one.

This is difficult to answer. I liked Sweet Tea, but it was the disk that began Buddy's move away from the Chicago Blues he helped define. Sweet Tea is Mississippi hill country music, the music of Junior Kimbrough, T-Model Ford, et al. Buddy is from Louisiana. He did the record because the producer, Dennis Herring, thought he would do a good job with the material. He was right, they took some chances and it worked well. It's also the first effort in quite a while where Buddy wasn't looking for that elusive crossover hit.

His subsequent releases, Blues Singer, a collection of acoustic performances of mostly "safe" song choices, and Bring 'Em In, an uneven and over-produced disk, began the parade of guest performers. While Skin Deep also has guest performers (and some do detract from the performances imo), it marks his return to the raw electric Chicago Blues that made him the icon he is today. With that said, a lot of people are not going to like the CD's title track which is done more in the vein of "Feels Like Rain" that doesn't really suit Buddy's style.

This isn't Stone Crazy or Damn Right I've Got the Blues, but it's going in the right direction. Hope this helps.

I picked the album up last week and have to say that it is, indeed, very good!

If you're interested, there is a great pic of Buddy's amp setup in the August 2008 issue of EQ magazine. For those who don't get the mag, you can read the article at . . .

. . . but there is no picture online.
