I don't want to contribute to the great flood we've had over the past few days, but I feel there is something important to be learned here.

Maturity doesn't come with age. The only thing that comes with age is experience. If you can use that experience to help someone in a mature way, you have done something deserving praise, but if you ignore the experience and lower yourself to the level of someone without, you haven't contributed anything.

There is a flood of "pointless blather," even outside of the dedicated thread. Some, if not all, of us would like it to dry up a bit, but the major contributing factor to its continued existence is the immature posts by the users who want the original author to be more mature.

When a thread with a genuine, albeit overused, topic is posted by a user who has previously posted threads with frivolous topics, users who hold themselves in high esteem for being "mature" will post something unrelated to the topic, often insulting the author, rather than contribute.

True, we have seen threads asking what everyone's dream guitar is, but if questions were never repeated nothing would ever change. At risk of alienating my fellows outside of the United States, I will direct you to our own legal system. In 1896, the United States Supreme Court ruled segregation legal, so long as it was separate but equal. If Plessy v. Ferguson, the case in which this precedent was set, where would we be today, over one-hundred years later?

Someone had to ask the same question again, and nearly everyone in this country today agrees that we are better for doing so.

So I ask, even plead, to you, when presented with a discussion that has been seen before, don't respond with a LOLcat image or other "we've answered this before" remark, but a genuine answer.

And to answer several of the questions:
Of my own collection, my favourite guitar is my Epiphone Casino. My favourite Fender colour is seafoam green. I prefer Martin acoustics to Gibsons, though I'm fond of both. Eric Clapton is my favourite guitarist, not because of his skill, but because of the emotion he pours into his songs. I have brown hair. I play several instruments, though I am trained only in classical percussion.

[EDIT] I fixed a few spelling and grammar mistakes. If you'd care to see the original, it's been quoted several times below this post.

Yes, you are right. But the main reason people respond that "there is already a thread on this" is so people will take the time to see if the topic already exsists. I mean, sometimes there's duplicate threads on the same day.

No need to be paranoid, no ones being pointed out. It's a general conversation. It's a good point at that.

I've often tried to use the search feature on this forum, before asking any questions. Almost every time, the search neither comes up with a result, or I get 2, 457, 932 answers, that I don't want to spend months looking through.

Just yesterday I had a question about Stainless Steel Frets, and tried to do a search on it. It gave me 0 finds. And I know I saw a thread on stainless steel frets just a couple of months ago. I don't know how much more simpler to do a search on stainless steel frets than typing "stainless steel frets. I know that repeating threads will upset some people, so I just let it go and didn't ask my question.

So perhaps some people do searches, come up with nothing that works for them, then come to the actual forum to ask the question. It may have been asked before and answered, but to newer members, they weren't here for that, and as a result, never saw the answer.

I've seen threads on topics that have been raised before, but still answer them anyway. It doesn't take much of my time to do so.

That's true. The search function isn't that exact. I can see where after a search someone just decides to ask anyway. It's the ones where the same thread is on the front page that get me.
