RIP, Gregg. Say 'hi' to Duane. We miss him too.

I just caught the news on this. I've heard he was ill and had to cancel some concerts. I guess it was worse than that. RIP, Gregg. :(

Gregg and Duane co-founded one of my favorite bands of all time. I just read that Gregg Allman has died. Not unexpected given his health, but very sad, nevertheless. Thanks for some of the best music I've ever heard. Brothers reunited.

He lived hard, he lived fast, and that took a lot of years off the back end of his life.

I was fortunate enough to see him twice -- once in 1967 with he and his brother's first band Hourglass and two years later with Duane in perhaps the finest rock/blues ensemble to ever call Dixie home.

RIP, Gregg.

You left one helluva big pair of shoes to fill.

:(

So true. Duane Allman and Berry Oakley left way too early, but the band managed to carry on.
Then Butch Trucks shuffled off this mortal coil earlier this year. And now Greg Allman left too.
The only one left with the musical roots is young Derek Trucks, and while he's super talented, hard working, and a great musician that mostly does his own things now, that's still a heavy legacy on his shoulders.

The music lives on. Time to play "Whipping Post".

Very very sad another one gone, some great music, seen them and him many times. Only got to work with Greg once during his solo career around 1985 when I was doing monitors at a 700 person club in Poughkeepsie,NY called the Chance
RIP Greg, Thanks for all the music

Life is short. You did a lot to be enjoyed in that time, Gregg.

Thanks!

I think Jaimoe and Dickey Betts are the only ones left from the original line up. I did see them in 2007, I think it was. Great concert, although I think they had to play a shorter set than they typically do.

Greggs son is named Elijah Blue Allman, he's known professionally as P. Exeter Blue.
He's part of the L.A. scene, and does so-so work with a few area bands to this day, nowhere near as talented or a wild as his dear departed dad.
