I just read about this an hour ago. He was 52 years old and just played a gig in Detroit. RIP, Chris. :(

Wow, that is so sad ... The four pillars of the '90s Seattle grunge scene: Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden. Of those four bands, only Pearl Jam's lead singer is still living.

We will miss you, Chris. RIP. Louder Than Love ...

Chris Cornell had such an incredible voice -- it always felt like he was tapping into something mystical when he sang. Never took the opportunity to see him perform live, but I will miss him. Prayers and condolences to his family, friends and all his fans.

Tragic news. I only hope it was not, although the report points in that direction, a suicide.

All too often this happens for whatever the underlying motivation is. Sometimes it's a sign of weakness or giving up the hope. Regardless, I wish more of this disheartening choice would transfer to the music or to develop one's bliss, and not to the individual, family, and friends. Life is short, and time will take care of troubling matters without any contribution needed. What one does with their time can make a difference and affect others positively or negatively. Best to use what little time is given to us wisely. While he was here with us Chris made a difference for others in many ways. Sadly, we've lost some of that, but what remains is a great memory. RIP CC.

This is the first celebrity passing that has made me feel like a family member had died.

Chris Cornell was my favorite singer by far. His work in Soundgarden, Audioslave and his solo career touched me like no other musician has.

A ghastly way to go.

Positively ghastly.

He had a very distinctive voice and he will be missed.

RIP

Quite distinctive and a four-octave vocal range
Unfortunately as the band Oysterhead sang "there ain't no cure for suicide"

I doubt when you take your own life you rest in peace. Still unfortunate. :(

They still had at least 6 dates scheduled for their US tour, with Columbus and Denver sold out. Columbus was suppose to be tomorrow.

Hanging isn't the worst way to go, if done gently enough that you just compress the jugular vein or carotid arteries and don't obstruct the airways. Some do that to get high, or as part of erotic autoplay, which seems rather dangerous, as you have to stop in time. David Carradine is possibly the best known example of someone who didn't stop in time.

In any case, I did not walk in Chris Cornell's shoes, and have no right to judge him. It's sad for many of us that he's gone, but he owed me nothing, and his life was his own. His contributions to this world will continue to give people joy for a long time to come.
