Marky seemed curious about this new Winnipeg Long and McQuade store opening with the longest curved wall in North America for hanging guitars. So, I thought you might all enjoy the sight. It is reported to be able to hang 700 guitars plus or minus depending on the guitars (and that doesn't include the acoustics, basses, and premium guitars elsewhere! It sure would be nice in my Man Cave; but, I'd need a lot of amps.

See if you can locate the sand blasted Stratocaster. :D https://www.irista.com/gallery/j7s2mur8cxze

Cheers!

So many guitars, so little time. :P That's pretty cool, actually. Was there a decent bass section, too?

I did see some in the room where there were some special higher end stuff along with many bass amps. Sorry, I didn't get a closer look at them, Paul, because that smaller room was packed, and I was in the acoustic mode buying the Taylor and salivating by the Strats and those other guys. Next time I'm there I will certainly take a closer look now that the mob has vacated.

Looks impressive, but I hate when a guitar is out of my reach. To easy to pass on by until something closer at hand grabs my eye.

I know what you mean. There are a few expensive babies there that are out of my reach too.

When stacked five levels high, it defeats much of the purpose. Anyone not 8' tall can't browse the guitars at will, but have to get staff with a ladder to bring them down, and again to put them back up.
I've walked away from looking at, holding, and potentially buying guitars at GC many times, simply because they were out of reach, and clerks either weren't available, or exuded a "don't bother me" field. This seems like this, on steroids.
You also need a lot of free space in front of the wall, so people can step back and crane their necks, so you're not really winning much in amount of displayed inventory. And sooner or later an employee will fall, or drop a guitar on a customer.

That's the advantage of having such a large stock at the lower levels to peruse. Consider the others for consideration, and stock that may be an item that otherwise may have required an order. If I had to choose it would be in house wherever it was.

The sales staff here are not commissioned and bend over backward. Sounds like there's staff out there that need to be hung on the wall.

Very cool....Manchester Music Mill in New Hampshire is slightly less but still impressive.

I'm guessing that's the new biggest L&M store.
I think Terminal Ave in Vancouver used to be.

Awesome, Mike. More guitars looking for a good home. :D
I'm happy for the gang at this new store. All the music departments improved. The music scene here is solid, and the Mom and Pop stores have their niche. The big box stores have theirs (but less now), and L&M's older store was crowded in poor shape (leaky) with little choice of product in house compared to other cities. This will no doubt be a draw for this town. It supports a sparse population around the province and in neighbouring Northern Ontario as well.

All in all good for the producers and the experienced as well as for encouraging budding musicians out there. I'm all for more music in the air.

The older store does have a longtime outside wall mural painted with local jazzmen and the Guess Who, however. I wonder what will happen to that.

Heya, Matt. I know the L&M store you're talking about in Van. I sped past it on the Skytrain when I visited family, so sadly I missed it. The one in Van looks to be huge from the outside and a couple of stories high if I'm not mistaken. It's on my hit list next visit now that I know the transit rapidly passes it by.

Yes.
It is long and narrow and two stories.
Guitars, basses and amps are all on the ground floor.
The upper floor has horns/woodwinds, keys, etc.
There's a lot of square footage.
When last I was in there (June '13), the amp room was rather impressive.
Not your usual 80% entry level gear, 20% premium gear.
More like 50/50.
Guitars too.
Plenty of high end gear to look at and drool over.
Make sure you go at a time when you can commit to a couple of hours.
There's a lot to see.
That was where I bought my natural ash AD Jazz.
Don't be afraid to ask for something you don't see.
They have lots of stock that's not on display.

Great to know, Matt. Nice Jazz by the way. Thanks, for the info. Sounds like a fun adventure. I'll have to send Mrs. FSB shopping so I'll have more time. Ha ha. Do they carry much used gear? I'm thinking a city with 4 million could have some pretty good pickings. Not so much here. :P
