Are you using one of these for your electrics?

I have Fender's Phoenix which I use on my Strats (7¼" radius) but it doesn't work so well with my Les Pauls or my Ibanez acoustic with their flatter boards. For those I use an old generic capo -- brand unknown, manufactured back in the Paleolithic Era.

I've not had the opportunity to try out the Fender capo(s), Mike. However, here's my experience.

Decades ago I bought a cheap elastic capo that had eyelets which stretched over a rubber covered rod. I have that capo today and, even after the use with a 12 string through the years, I am surprised it still has elasticity and works as it always did. Not so great for removing and storing in a pinch, however.

As you likely know, some capos have plenty of tension but no adjustment, and whatever is suitable for one guitar can often be unsuitable for the other. The ones that do have adjustable tension often require two handed adjustment. One handed tension adjustment has its advantages.

For the last 4 years I've used a G7th G7 Performance capo that is slick to use on and off, is friendly to the guitar finish, and works well on my Strat and Taylor acoustic. This great looking capo can fit in your palm, is well built, only requires a moderate hand squeeze, and has a lifetime guarantee which is worth the extra cost IMHO.

The slimmer G7th Newport has a cool preset (or at the time) tension adjustment that I haven't experienced. It is less inconvenient than many tension adjustable capos, and is similar in operation to the G7th G7 Performance. 8)

One capo rarely fits all necks just right, been thinking about trying one w/ multiple radius inserts. I only have 4 guitars but they all have different radius' 9.5,12,14,17;barre for the course.
I haven't tried a Fender capo. I have a really cheapo brand w/ built in tuner that broke and is taped up, a real PITA to change batteries now and has been dead for a while.

I use traditional cejillas.
Benefits include
- You adjust the tightness, so you avoid sharping like with modern capos.
- It doesn't stick out to the side nor bottom, and won't catch your thumb.
- They don't add much weight.
- The suede leather strap won't mar the neck.

In case anyone wonder what they look like, here are a couple:

They're usually made flat, but for radiused finger boards, it's easy to file down the middle to the radius you need, or add an extra piece of shivved leather, fatter on the sides.

The cejillas look classy and interesting for a singular purpose, arth1.

Yea, I'm wondering if their Dragon Capo might handle the radius better.

I'm betting so since the photo seems to suggest that it favors a flatter radius. Will investigate the next time I visit a guitar shop (these are accessories I prefer not to buy sight unseen).

Such pronouncements are oh-so-useful.

Thank you for sharing such wisdom, Señor Segovia.

Don Felder, Keith Richards, Albert Collins, Tom Petty etc etc. and the list goes on. All sissies I guess. I would have never guessed it.

Arrrrgggh, you stole my thunder!

Perhaps these artists aren't sissies but merely "wusses".

C'mon gang. Please find it in your hearts with all your wisdom, experience, and sympathy to cut Harald4 some slack. It could be that this poor misguided fella has a phobia. In fact it could be that he is terrified to use a capo should he know how. I think Harald4 needs a little assurance that it's okay to join the pros with a capo. Everyone can make a mistake.

I'm a fan of the Shubb capo. Used the same one for the last 15 years or so. Easy on, easy off, easy to adjust and sturdy.
