I performed at a open mic night for a unique church. I forget the exact church type, but I'll mention this. They sold beer there...and they had the most diverse selection you can imagine.

I played acoustic and my friend Mark sang. He had just came down from Chicago and we had never met in person. He had been writing vocals & lyrics to my acoustic songs, we had a blast.

I've sure come a long way since then :)

It was an awesome church for sure haha. I thought to myself is this for real?! They had import beer for cheap too, I loved it.

Now that I am remembering more , I believe the church type was unitarian. Do they all drink beer?!

Your gig sounds interesting as well. So you played guitar w/ the flutes & dancing? Must have been wild.

This is a good post topic. One I would not thought of to ask about..cool wingfield!

I played a talent show at a veteran's home... at sixteen, I was the oldest performer. I played Folsom Prison Blues.

I was a drummer in a band, and we played at an Italian Social Club. We just formed the band, and I didn't think we were good enough to be playing in public........but the rest of the band wanted to do it. So....I went along with the program, we played, somehow did well enough for people not to kick us out of the place..........and they asked us to stay all night to play.

I jammed with three other friends. We practiced for maybe 2 hours tops, but we played a decent set of a little jam, plug in baby by muse, under the bridge by the chili peppers, and then an outro jam at a coffee house. It was better than the other band that played that night apparently. (it was a screamo band with their amps turned up much too loud for the room  )

My first real gig was at a high school dance. I think we knew about 15 tunes but we knew them well. 8)

Yeah. I usually like a few artists from pretty much every genre imaginable, but screamo may be the exception. There may be a few that are bearable, but this was a person continually playing open strings in Drop D while flailing around. The singer just belted out incoherent screams. It was hard on the ears.

I believe it was a couple of sets on a Thursday at a local club. That was the "new band" night, no cover charge, very little pay for the band. If you did okay, then you could get a regular Friday or Saturday night gig.
