I apologise in advance sorry if I'm being a bit cheeky here but if this is real I'm going to go buy it tomorrow despite not liking SG's. The price is pennies which is what's aroused my suspicions, but to my untrained eye and a bit of quick Google detective I'm leaning towards real.

Serial number checks out as a US made 2005 guitar. Headstock looks correct to me. But I'm struggling to find a photo exactly matching this colour with the the tuners and the little black plate at the bottom of the neck.

Can anybody more familiar with these help out?

I know the pics aren't great but I'm not seeing anything blatantly wrong.

Ok thanks the price did make me wonder. Other than the tuners not being tulip ones what's the give away? The only other things I wasn't sure on was the headstock inlay, but struggled to compare like for like photos

He also says he's had it 8 years, wasn't aware copies were this accurate 8 years ago, assuming he's not lying. The wear on the pickups suggests its quite old/played. Does real gibson gold hardware lose its colour like other gold hardware?

An SG Custom would have an ebony fretboard.

It might be worth those "pennies" you spoke of but it's definitely not a Gibson.

Art, has that number been used a lot or something?
I'm curious how you happen to have a pic of the exact number.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Whenever in doubt, Google Pictures is your friend. Plug in a serial number, and look for guitar pics.

I've seen this serial number on several "Chibson's" and was trying to find a pic. Since Arth1 found one 'nuff said.

I did think to look see if it was a common serial number, I just didnt think to google the number haha.

Think I'll leave it alone, cheers. Seems a lot of the stuff I read to check for the fakers have improved!

I would be interested in knowing if the sell admits it is a fake or if he maintains it is a real Gibson.
