I'm just resurrecting an old thread-just because I still can't believe people sell stuff on Ebay like THIS:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Fender-69-Telecaste ... dZViewItem

This Ebay 'store' is parting out a '69 Tele Thinline (a practice I don't approve of, if it is/was a perfectly good guitar), but THIS is ridiculous!

Anybody else here found any similar 'treasures'?

I don't. Here's my take on it tho: Some people wouldn't care about parting out an old Tele, Strat, J Bass, or P Bass. I enjoy it for what they are, a tool for me to express my self. I've modified basses before, and still will. Will it depreciate it, not an issue for me. It's mine and I can do what ever I want with it. Some, a lot of others, like to keep it original state, see it appreciate, sell it for profit, or keep it to brag about an original 60's something guitar or bass. That's cool too.

Actually, my emphasis was on selling used strings (I was hoping someone would check out the enclosed auction site, thaty's why I put it in the post), as if there was a demand for them (ick! Which is better, used strings or a new set of EBs for $3.99 from MF? Hmmm....).

But since you mentioned modding-people do what they want to do to their own guitars and have done so for ages, sure, but there are a lot of 'chop shops' on Ebay that dismantle entire NEW or slightly used/recent/current model guitars for parts-and in many cases it's not like you couldn't get parts ordered from a authorized dealer. It seems to me like a lot of work by the seller just to try to make a profit, and it doesn't necessarily benefit the buyer.

By the time the shipping costs are payed, you'd be paying more for used strings than new strings. Someone will be dumb enough to buy them though.

I think you're probably right. Someone out there might get it just because it's 99 cents, no matter what it actually is.

I should mention that the strings seem to have come from a '69 Tele Thinline RI (not an original), by looking at this sellers other auctions. But that's just my guess. I just love it when Ebay sellers are vague.

Mahahahahahahah! I love it! I think I've seen a few serious auction sites that were more parody than fact.

Vintage guitar took an unusual slant on this topic, well sort of.

morbid as it may be they considered the idea that we are only caretakers
of these instruments and that when we pass they will indeed be someone elses to own for their trips around the sun.

I think about who will some day play my guitars and hope they will treasure them as I have, my gift to them whoever they may be is to keep them as well as I can in original condition.

I for one am glad there are still original and complete 1954 strats to see and play, wouldnt it be sad if there were not ????

Sorry, but like someone said earlier, after shipping it'll be more expensive than buying new strings. I don't buy used strings either.

Yes, that was my point. Selling or buying used strings is ridiculous, and just ain't right.

BTW, I get my new strings in bulk, it saves majorly on shipping and beats paying double at the local music store for the same brand.

Used strings? Isn't that kinda like selling your used underwear?
