Happy Earth Day. It was created in 1970 to do what ever it does. What ever that is. Image

I'm going to celebrate by burning some tires in my back yard. :P

I'm kidding, of course. Not totally polluting everywhere is probably a good idea, since people to have to live here long after we're gone.

Night Of The Lepus?!
Whoa! Now I'm scared to venture out into the yard (especially since they have big ears and probably heard me trash talkin' about them).

Thanks, for the warning, Paul.

Arbor day is coming up, and a good opportunity to plant a tree to help compensate for what's been used in all your axes and amps.
Or support one of the organizations that work on reforesting areas still bare from the indiscriminate clearcutting of decades ago (and still done in some countries).

+1

I originally lived on Vancouver Island in B.C. where I first hand and the world saw the abusive clear cutting of centuries old growth done by a foreign offshore company that came and went with the profits leaving behind what looked like a moonscape. They then traveled to another country to ply their trade and practice of devastation - never to return to the island in shame.
Every day I look at the backyard to see a 40 year old 40 foot high Pine Tree that I brought home as a seedling for my nephew to plant on Arbor Day when he wasn't much taller than that seedling. I got it from the forestry, and at the time it was planted at my in-laws home. Today, my wife and I enjoy the shade on a sunny day on our patio. That tree was neglected until I moved back and nursed it to be the healthy specimen it became. Cutting and raising (which somebody else did) the bottom growth of the evergreen isn't always a wise move, convenient though it may be. Besides, my wife's birdhouse collection adorns the tree and keeps us entertained with all the variety of birds from the flyway, especially in the fall and the spring.

A white birch is in the front yard for now. $1000 to remove it when the beetles and age weaken it. A maple had been cut down some time ago from rot. Another $700 back then. Unfortunately, infestation takes it's toll on these and other trees like the cherry trees gone from the neighbours. Dutch elm disease continues to plague the city. But, most of all man is the biggest pest I'm sad to say. Sometimes, the prairies reminds me of clear cutting as many just don't want the trees for whatever reason. Even though there is an expense for pruning, cutting, and mulching along with Canker Worm invasions and chemicals (mostly on deciduous trees) there's still advocates and hold outs like me. I'm not into hugging trees, but I can give plenty of appreciation for nature's gift to enjoy.

Arbor Day - Gotta love it :D
