"Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple. My first guitar teacher taught me the riff and then the solo, not-for-note.

"I Wanna Be Sedated" by the Ramones. First song I learned after learning barre chords.

First was she's electric by oasis, in my neighbours garage, both crammed into a little space we cleared from the mountain of junk in the garage.

In my first band at about 16 I learnt all the solos for pink Floyd's money, switching pickups to give me the different sounds for each part of the solo. That took me a while to get to gig standard.

Love Hurts - Nazareth

I was frustrated but worked at it. I sang along with the chord changes which helps with my rhythm and syncopation, this was useful for me during my early learning. Also, it seemed that when I sat down again, after a nights rest, the song became easier to play. A good nights rest must help with learning?

Yes, I find if I am working on something and get stuck, the best thing to do is walk away.

When I come back later(the next day) , I can play what I have been working on.

The key to "Spinning Wheel" by B,S,&T is a dom7#9 chord.

If u use that chord in a country band they kick u out.
Even if u use a dom7/9

It happened to me

My first one was probably "Wipe Out" by the Surfaris. My crowning achievement as a bedroom player in high school was "Stairway to Heaven" . . . just like every other kid at that time who had a guitar.

The Troggs "Wild Thing"-their lead guitarist Chris Britton was one of my biggest influences-fabulous percussive strumming style.

I think Smoke on the Water was the first riff I learned. The first song I ever played in public was Wipeout on a Fender Musicmaster back in 76 at a school assembly. The good ole' days lol
