The 80-year-old “Rhinestone Cowboy” singer was diagnosed in 2011 and continued touring until 2014, when he was moved into a long-term care facility. His wife, Kim, still visits almost every day.

Campbell’s lost most of his language, Kim told The Tennessean, and doesn’t understand many words either.

He can play air guitar, but can’t handle the strings on an actual instrument. And he tries to sing, Kim said, but the lyrics come out as gibberish.

Boy... this makes me want to play as much, and as often, as I can before the day comes when I too can no longer play !

cheers!

He was a gifted man, to be sure.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

That's really tragic. :( I really hope they find a cure for that disease some day. :(

So sad. His voice and guitar style were certainly unique and special.

He also had a very successful variety TV show. A truly multitalented entertainer. In a world today of instant stardom, Glen was a true SUPERSTAR.

True Dat !!

Plus, he was also on many recordings where he recieved no credit, so many are unaware of the true extent of his resume.

In his time with the Wrecking Crew, Campbell played on the original recordings of "I Get Around" and "Help Me Rhonda" for the Beach Boys. In 1965 he toured with the Beach Boys, and in 1966 he and the Wrecking Crew were responsible for about 99% of the music on their "Pet Sounds" album.

cheers!

8) His wife had his last tour documented, it was released last spring I think. I have been a fan of Glen since I was 9, the documentary was heartwarming and sad at the same time. He was in bad shape by the end of the tour, forgetting words and singing the same verse twice, etc.

The last stop on the tour was in LA and a lot of people in the music business showed up to see his last show. My favorite was when they interviewed Flea of The Red Hot Chili Peppers. He said "So he sang the same verse twice, so what, let him do what he wants, he's Glen Campbell!"

I'm going to miss you Glen!

:( :(

As someone who used to play Glenn's music on the turntable, radio, TV, and guitar, I can say he's far from gone; but, as others here and elsewhere have said G.C. will be missed when that day comes. There's a sad Wichita lineman out there somewhere too.

Thanks, for sharing, Glenn. You'll always be here for your fans, and your fans are here for you.

That's very sad news, and my feelings are with the family who have to endure it.
If I ever get towards that situation, I hope that one of my friends will take me for a fishing trip on a boat. Just saying.
