R.I.P. Mr. Superharp !!

I saw James Cotton last a year ago and he was definitely slowed-down. He did the entire set sitting in a chair, but he still killed it !! Early '80s I saw him a lot down at Mr. Kelly's on Rush in Chitown. I was there almost every weekend.

Born on a cotton plantation in Tunica, Mississippi on July 1, 1935, James was a working musician by age nine. He learned harmonica directly from Sonny Boy Williamson II (Rice Miller), toured with Williamson and Howlin’ Wolf.

He recorded for Sun Records in 1953 before spending 12 years touring and recording with Muddy Waters (starting at age 20). Cotton was featured on Muddy’s famous 1960 At Newport LP on Chess Records, including the iconic version of Got My Mojo Working, one of the classic recordings of the Chicago Blues genre.

Where are those who'll replace James and his kind... ??

Thank your creator that we lived in such times as to be entertained by him and all the other Blues Giants !

So long James... Thanks for the Music !!

cheers!

Every generation has their heroes. I'm glad to have been in this generation, and to have experienced the fine talent such as James Cotton. Sure, there have been heroes before, and there will be heroes to come; but, there is only one James Cotton. Peace be with you and yours J.C.
