Back when bikes had about 5" of suspension travel and that was considered a lot.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
It certainly was a different time.

Memorable quote:
"There are two types of race freaks - Bultaco freaks and non Bultaco freaks.
If you want to win in motocross, get a Bultaco, hold it wide open and hang on!"
Motocross Action- June 1975

I hated those right-shift bikes, BTW.
I guess there was one redeeming quality.
When you went for the brakes .... at least you were downshifting.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Cool Bultaco. In 1970 I had a room mate that slept with his Norton bike. He had just come back from full time racing in Europe, and knew most of the leaders in that sport.

He was rebuilding his bike and, along with new suspension from Italy and wheels from the States, he ordered a new frame from U.K.'s Cheney. I seem to recall he mentioned Cheney and some dealings related or unrelated with Raleigh bicycles which also dabbled unsuccessfully with motorbikes earlier.

As it would happen, all his purchases unexpectedly arrived pretty much at the same time, some at the local airport and others cross country at a seaport, and when tax and duties were added, he was short some cash. We knew his reputation so we all chipped in across the country so he wouldn't have to get involved with reshipping to say the least. Such is the life of the burgeoning pro.

Friends dropped out of the larger 500 cc racing to 250 cc because they simply enjoyed it more or so they say.
