Ho ho ho. Hee hee hee. That's a good one, Mike. Still laughing.

I think that's fair market price considering inflation and all. Is our Canadian Loonie accepted as par? If not I'll have to take out a loan.
Mrs. FSB says Brown Eyed Girl (the song . . . THE SONG!) is easily worth $1000. But, she wants a discount because of her brown eyes. :P
Cheers!

LOL!!! I'm adding "Jenny Jenny" to that list now too - I've played it a zillion times
and still don't understand the appeal with better songs to do.

I might add "Margaritaville" or anything Jimmy Buffett too.

Tnat'll work. By the way I'm still saving up so I can make a request :P
Back in the day it was Wipeout, Louis Louis, Let's Go, Wild Thing, and She Loves You until the cows came home. Things have improved.

I think it's because those songs have become unaffordable.
Keep a rockin' till they can't come in, Mike.

Ain't it cool to lurn from each other? It always freaks me out to see how the methods and tools today speed up the process of these young 'uns techniques and ability.

I revisited some old recordings a while back only to discover the simplicity and errors (likely from one take) that were passed on to the public where these tunes became hits. Things have come a long way.

Keep on rawkin' with your knees still a knockin', Mike. :D

Thx FSB! What surprises me the most is how smooth some of the young players can transition
from a riff to tapping and behind the nut bends and then go right back to their solo without missing
a nanosecond/beat.

Them rascals, huh? What gets me is that when it comes to their skills they're old beyond their years. Ahem! We got 'em on that one brother.

The gig went fine but driving home through the storms was pretty brutal. I
hate seeing those cloud to ground lightning strikes out my side window!!!

I don't get the whole "Brown Eyed Girl" thing.

Is it tired and old? Probably. But if you're in a cover band your job is to play what a crowd enjoys isn't it? We never put that in our list but a couple attractive females ask for it and we can watch them dance for 3 minutes while we play a song you could do in your sleep? Let's do it boys.

Maybe I have no soul, or maybe I'm missing the point or something but just my opinion.

The Brown Eyed Girl thing. Hardly a great band goes by without having sung songs that were oldies but goodies long before those latest bands arrived. Look at the British Invasion, and how those bands were weaned on good old American Rock and Roll and Blues.

As for Brown Eyed Girl, aside from cruizin' down the strip with the windows dropped and the music blaring while your main squeeze cuddled up to you (before bucket seats were the norm), just the fact that the crowd could and can sing along with "Do you remember when we used to sing Sha la la la la la la la la la la te da" may be just enough to get those vibes goin'. Mind you some lyrics today are even simpler.
But, to really put Brown Eyed Girl to the test of time you might want to take a look at the excellent article that Wikipedia says about how and why the song has staying power. Be sure to check the part about what Paul Williams said in his book Rock and Roll: The 100 Best Singles.

Interesting read, FSB! When I read the article, I thought about some of the parodies
of it that I've heard lol. (One Eyed Girl, Blind Eyed Girl, etc...)

A guy named Jeff Reuben did a very cool one called "Cross Eyed Girl" :

"Your right eye looks left
Your left eye looks right
Please be my girlfriend
Cause you're out of sight!
Pitching and a bumblin', hey, hey
Tripping and a stumblin'
Going for our morning walk and (who--)
Who's seeing double? It's you!
My cross eyed girl
And you, my cross eyed girl

Oh, how did it happen?
That morning was so slow
Sitting down at the front desk
You were...staring down at your nose
Mama tried to tell you, "Stop that!
Or they will get stuck that way!"
Seven hours later
She drove to the eye doctor with you
My cross eyed girl
You my cross eyed girl

The doctor gave a test
You had to read:

F
B C
P T E O
B Z F E D O

Try line five:

F C L T B
T E P O L F D Z

Just like that.

So hard to find your way
Taking out telephone poles
I saw you just the other day
Down in a hole
I hope you wouldn't cheat on me
I know you've got a wandering eye, but
It made me feel so good when
You said you'd always fall for me
My cross eyed girl
And you, my crossed eyed girl

The doctor gave a test
You had to read:

F
B C
P T E O
B Z F E D O

Try line five:

F C L T B
T E P O L F D Z

Just like that."

That was superb, Mike. What a treat. Thanks, for the addition. Now I'm debating whether to have some fun singing that to my Brown Eyed Girl, or whether I want to live after going to the dog house.

Cheers!

I dunno if that Cross Eyed Girl song is for real, Mike. I took the chance and sang it to Mrs. FSB who exclaimed, "I've never heard that song in my life."
She has now!
And so far I'm still alive, but I'll sleep with one cross eye open tonight. :P
FSB

And so goes the legendary song, Chris. Now ya know.

That's definitely a lot of info on Brown Eyed Girl, the song, that I didn't know. Kind of sad that Van never received any royalties from this huge hit for him.

But to my point, LOL, I just don't get refusing to play songs that you think are tired and boring. I still say if you're a cover band, which some of us will only be, that's the price of playing out. We had a keyboard player at one time so we had a blast doing some stuff by the Tubes and Supertramp that we thought were fantastic. But when you might be losing the crowd over some songs you're playing for your own benefit, you still need the "tired" standards to reel them back in.

But here's a latest video from our July gig in Bayfield, WI. No Brown Eyed Girl included......
