Speaking of Dylan going electric, I live just up the road from where that took place. Unfortunately, I've never attended any of the Newport Folk or Blues Festivals since I've lived here, and I think this years is already sold out. You know, if I had a boat, I could just go out into the harbor, like a lot of people do, and watch it. But I don't, so alas. :P

That's way cool, Paul. I know what it is like to not be a tourist in your own town. Especially, one that's packed with tourists. The last time I did the tourist thing I won all day all event Jazz Fest passes from a grocery store. My wife and I worked opposite shifts so I dragged my butt around to the events in the day, worked the night shift, up early the next morning, and did this for a week celebrating with the Mrs. On the weekend day and night. I was hooped at the end of it, but met a lot of artists and strangers from the States and elsewhere so the dragging my butt was worth every moment and I'd do it again in a flash. :D

I'd love to see Newport's famous event, and I'm partial to boats as well. No doubt that would be a lot of fun. 8)

This is a big tourist hot spot in the summer and I've even spotted Lady Gaga walking down the street last summer when we were in the car, but I've never thought about it like that for some reason. I guess it's because I'm still walking around here in the winter or fall in the off season, and I've never visited it as a tourist. I've yet to even see some of the tourist attractions like those mansions and all. Walked by them plenty of times, though.

Newport sounds a lot like Victoria, BC. Lots of yachts, and celebrities. Hope, Crosby, and Lewis amongst others had homes on the island. Salmon fishing and golf is a big draw, and locals are pretty much accustomed to not bothering them. For all that my biggest perk was meeting every one of my cowboy heroes, and Davy Crockett. On a musical gig note to bring this closer to the topic, and telling my age, I remember Gary Lewis and the Playboys when he first started, playing the arena, when unannounced Jerry Lewis and his spot light ran through the crowd repeatedly yelling, "That's my kid up there!" :D

I remember that band, but I never knew he was Jerry Lewis' son. They're still around, or at least he is doing the cruise ship circuit and whatnot, and even put out a new song in 2012, which is something those surviving 60's bands don't seem to do much of. Then again, a lot of these groups are lucky if they even have one original member in the band, or in the case of these days, all of the original members are still living.

Glad the place was air conditioned last night!

A regular gig, uneventful, played, got paid, home safe.

So you didn't have to bottle someone or smash your guitar over their heads, or is that one of my gigs that happens? :P I'm kidding, of course. I don't recall playing a show that ever happened to me, fortunately.

No. I have seen a few shootings and a guy get his throat slashed, but not this time.

That's when a guy needs a good axe! :P

That brings up an interesting question for this topic - how many drink (and what) when
playing a gig?
I drink water only during the gig, then afterwards maybe a beer or three.
I drink beer....and plenty of it. Any of the "old school" American biggies---Old Milwaukee, Budweiser, Hamm's, Coor's, Miller High Life (no freaking Light beer) whatever they have in 'long necks'....craft beers like Leinenkugel's, Samuel Adams, or "local" to the venue is good as well. Guinness on tap or in 14.9 ounce cans with the Ping-Pong ball CO'2 capsule are my very top choices IF they're available.
Quit drinking hard liquor and/or shots 6 years ago.

Little bit of a "buzz", and I open up or loosen up on the guitar and vocals, and do a lot better...dead sober, I'm too much of a "perfectionist", and tightens me up to boredom (for me and the crowd).

Attended a new jam last night. I played a 30 minute set with the house bass player
and drummer. Kept it fairly simple and it went well. Mostly 12 bar blues tunes.

We did a tribute to Gregg Allman last night. It went well.

I think Gregg would have liked that, Mike.
