How was my gig? It's been so long since I've had a gig, I feel like chucking everything in a &#+$ dumpster.

I would like a gig at a ski lodge on top of the mountain like Whistler on a nice warm day. Failing that, a gig on the beach of a South Pacific island preferably without volcanoes, tsunamis, or earthquakes (a Tiki bar would be fine).

It would be Winter in this city and I’d bring musicians good enough and willing to take up a full time gig. Must like pineapple or coconut and little umbrellas. :P
On second thought, I just woke up to reality and rain.
The good? No volcanoes, tsunamis, or earthquakes. :D Ka Ching!

I would think that in NY, you'd be finding a lot of gigs...

Indeed very cool, Sérgio! I'm seeing more and more people using iPads even Neil Young on stage!

hehehe as a matter of fact we don't use it for anything related to the music. Effects or sounds.

Our drummer is retarded and can't sing all the sets without having the lyrics in front of them.

Yeah, it's the law here, every bar has to display one by the stage. You know, fire prevention and all that jazz...

Anyway I always, invariably, think of using it to spray the crowd, just as the Ramones did (although it'd be much more fun with tear gas)!

I'm sorry but I can't think of anything less rock & roll than having an iPad on stage.

But I guess Weir gets a pass because he is getting up there in the years.

Yup! Check the piano.

But, even more use teleprompters:

After 30 years of professional teleprompter use from paper rolls to automated electronic scripting I can only say that whether you use a tablet or a teleprompter, you’ll want a backup (like memory) or a double upped system. If it’s remotely scrolled or page changed by another you’ll want someone who can follow your adlib to be your helper. There are distinct prompter needs and differences from one performer to another, especially without rehearsals. That’s why those who operate them can earn big bucks and do. Some performers only go with operators who can be trusted and with whom they feel comfortable with. It’s not unusual for the prompter op to remain or travel with the performer. It’s convenient to use automation, or self control, but not in all scenarios. For self, occasional, or home use it’s a whole different story.

A broken system in a small venue may be manageable, but with a big crowd it can be as ugly as forgetting your words. Although, I have a feeling in these times, technical failure is more likely to be accepted over sheer performance goof up and the odds are changed.
Of course, if short or no rehearsal is the case, tablets or prompters are very useful. If your song list is huge like Elvis had (he would have been a good candidate) or if you’re a stoner you would do well with an iPad or teleprompter or both. Of course with some rockers it won’t make any difference. IMHO Forget the words altogether and just play a vocal track. :P  YMMV

Teleprompters are usually hidden from the audience view so it's not a distraction. The problem with using an iPad is it's a little tiny screen so you have to stick it up on a mic stand which just looks .... kinda dorky.
