At least they didn’t hold you hostage. You got to go home and you got paid. Speaking of Cash. Apparently, the San Quentin gigs are appreciated. :P

:D

Tonight was a jam session/open mic night. Quite a varied bunch of performers
from solo/singer/songwriter to- rock til you drop - with a little fiddle, mando and acapella acts.
It's great because you have to work hard to match up the talent and (lack of, ...) so to speak...
But we made everyone feel welcome and played with some friends from older bands. It's great
because it's a Thursday night and many players that have weekend gigs can make it too.
The musicianship is very good. They say it's always good to play with better musicians
and there were some young guitslinger's and singers there tonight too.

Great post, Mike. It’s almost like being there.

Sounds like fun. :D

Cool, if not, a general description is fine. :D

I did a small function earlier today. Just myself (guitar/vox), bassist (w/vox) and drummer (cocktail kit)
and it went well. At first the volume was a little loud (we were told) so we turned down. The second set
everyone started dancing and we kept the music volume in check, but I notched up the vocals a bit because
the acoustics weren't too good (carpets and curtains). Some of you might laugh at this, but some of the
songs we played (keep in mind guitar/bass/drums) were :

Fly Me to the Moon
It Had to be You
Moondance
Jackie Wilson Said
I Shot The Sheriff
The Long & Winding Road
The Battle of New Orleans
Twisting By The Pool
Champagne On Ice
Moon River
Just The Way You Look Tonight
The Summer Wind
My Sharona
Rock This Town

A real variety of stuff that got the dance floor groovin'

Just now getting in from open mic/jam night. We had 3 full bands and
other assorted singer/songwriters and musicians there to jam....and jam we did.
A fun night on a very warm Spring day.

It was soggy and wet but we played before the heavy rains swept in.

Not to shabby tonight. Started raining after loading in...was a decent gig
with a fun crowd...a girl who called herself "Hurricane Katrina" was visiting
from Florida and we knew a few of the same people. Small world sometimes!

Saturday's gig went fine. Three sets, nice crowd, outdoor patio and an unexpected raise in pay.
Sundays gig, anything that could go wrong, did! It was an outdoor gig and only one set with generators powering everything. First problem, bass amp was anemic. The louder he played, the more anemic it sounded. We ended up running it through the p.a. Then my wireless receiver kept cutting out. It took till the second song to figure it out and finally unplugged it and ran a cable to my board. We all missed several cues and somehow managed to get through. Ironically, we were doing it for free as a favor for a friend, but ended up getting paid....so I guess it must not have been that bad. All's well that ends well, I suppose.

Sounds like a very decent weekend all things considered.

Pretty good night co-hosting jam/open mic night at the American Legion
Bar. Some really good younger talent. A band called Silver Eagle did a great set
with songs from alt. country stuff then launched into some southern rock
and a couple of ABB tunes. Three guys in the 20s blew the roof off with a
Hendrix Tribute. Great strat player that has studied Hendrix very well.
I did a set of bluesy rock with songs like Walkin' The Dog (funky), Call Me The Breeze,
Lies (The Knickerbockers), Mike Bloomfield Medley....
A really good night of making new contacts and friends while listening
to some good music. :)
