I’m in my home town in BC for Christmas and a friend asked me to stand in for his absent guitarist at a pre-Christmas warm-up party at the Elks Lodge last night.
I always bring some gear with me when I go home for Christmas because I know a number of musos from there and there is frequently a jam somewhere since lots of guys (gals) get home for the holiday.
I knew only a small handful of the songs they played so I was winging it for pretty much most of the night.

We did pretty well considering we had very little rehearsal time together and I learned about some music I was not familiar with.
Weird crowd though.
Zero feedback from them during a set but glowing reviews when mingling between sets.
It was a much younger crowd than I’m used to playing for.
Perhaps that was the difference.
How young?
Let me put it this way ... there were a few fights.
It’s been decades since I saw a Donnybrook at a gig I was playing.
The young and dumb and full of hormones crowd at its finest.

If you had any fun at all it was worth it, IMO.
Merry Christmas, Matt!

Hey. Matt. Sounds like a good time was had by all. Having come from BC myself as you know thete’s still a Wild West in some parts of that country. The next time you gig there be sure to wear a hockey helmet and face mask.
Nice you could make it home for Christmas. Keep rockin’ and a have a great Christmas.

Thanks, guys.
I have to admit it was pretty good to be on stage again.
It's been far too long.

Well, after seeing Albert Lee earlier this month, I decided to try a couple of the tunes that
he did and "Ready, Willing and Able (to Rock & Roll all night) along with "Mad Gumbo" came
out pretty good tonight. The band was on fire and that helped keep the groove together well.
The dance floor was rockin' with us all night. Fun! :D

Glad you and the guys had a great gig, Mike. That Albert guy might have to take a holiday and regroup with the competition being so strong.
Cheers!

We all know old guys rock. It’s just that some of us do it in a chair with headphones. :P

Fun time tonight co-hosting the open-mic night. What a variety of performers we had.
Some female singers and a few acoustic players, along with heavy Zep and Judas Priest
stuff. I sat in with a country band. We did some Patsy Cline, Zak Brown, Little Big Town,
Toby Keith, etc. They had a lot of free food. Great night!

Did a fill-in gig with some friends last night. Had to learn 3 sets of mostly
new (to me) material. It went okay, nothing special. Small club and mostly locals
and got paid so life is good.

Great night, good crowd for a "Thirsty Thursday" gig. The band
sounded tight and dance floor was movin' & groovin' :D
