I have a piece of luggage that is built like an amplifier. The simiilarity is that it is covered with Tolex and has corners like those in the link below.

I would like to replace the battered tolex but I do not know how the corners are attached. Are the corners typically nailed in? They look like they are fastened with a rivet.

I don't want to start taking it apart to find that I'm doing a lot of damage and that a simple job is turning into a complex job.

The link you provided is to our website (www.speakerbuildersupply.com), so maybe I can help answer the question.
When used on a guitar amp or speaker cabinet, these corners are typically fastened with truss head screws, but I have seen cases where they have been attached with nails or rivets. Some manufacturers do this simply to save time.
I'm assuming that you mean that the corners on your piece appear to be attached with nails or rivets, but about the only way to find out would be to try and pull them out. You may be able to salvage the corners and then reattach them with screws.
We have a small tutorial on amp corners here: www.jam4jmessageboard.com.
Click the guitar and bass cabinet section then open the "amp corners" tutorial. Check it out. -Gary
