David Cassidy had been on a rocky road before; but, this time, with consideration for his fans, he decided to turn around and share his disease with his fans. We wish you the best, David. Take care.

My pop had dementia for a couple of years before he passed away this past November.
You get used to answering the same question 3 times in 5 minutes.
You get used to it because they're family and you love them.
You get used to dealing with their fear due to lack of memory.
Who they are. Where they are. And why.
I watched it and I still can't even imagine.

I'm gonna show my age here.
I used to hang pix of Dave on my bedroom wall when I was a pre-teen; like 10 to 12 or so.
Posters pulled out of TigerBeat Magazine and the like.
I was just a fledgling guitarist at that time.
I knew about a dozen chord shapes.
I think I was just learning barre chords.
David Cassidy, Bobby Sherman, Donnie Osmond, etc.
Those guys were my role models.
Standing on stage in front of people singing their guts out.

I wish nothing but peace and tranquility for you, Dave.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I share your sentiments, Matt. I can't even imagine losing my marbles and having no memories to relive then burdening my family until I finally succumbed. I'd rather get blown to bits by a claymore mine or take an AK round in the head.

If it were Prince, it would be time to blame his poor lifestyle choices and substance abuse. But alas it's David Cassidy, so that makes it OK. Sad indeed.

Matt, I can relate to your story about your father. Belated condolences. My mother-in-law, who lived with my wife and I for 12 years, and whom we loved dearly and called one of the 3 Musketeers had Dementia for the last 2 - 3 years of her life which passed about the same time as your Dad. We saw her most every day with her hearing loss, failing eyesight, and wheelchair. Tough times for her, and a lesson for us in physical and mental abilities.

Three stage Dementia takes its toll on everyone involved; but, once it's understood as a syndrome and accepted with recommended help available from support groups, Dimensia can very often be manageable with compassion and effort. With bad times come good times for each involved, and we wouldn't trade those good times for anything. YMMV.

Wishing you good times ahead, David.

First off, was I ever a big David Cassidy fan, not really, but I did watch the Partridge Family show because I thought the whole concert of travelling in a custom bus to play music was so cool. Oh, and Lori Partridge was hot!!

I wouldn't wish this disease on anyone though. My father in law has Parkinson's disease and now the last couple years have added Dementia to the list of ailments. It's terrible, that's about all I can say about it. He was this brilliant man with a keen wit and great sense of humor and now, for lack of a better word, he's like a zombie. Uncommunicative, bed ridden, staring off into space, no comprehension, the saddest thing I've ever had to watch.

Let's hope for progress on this disease and wish nothing but the best for another 70's icon, best to Mr Cassidy!

My Dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in mid 2013, we are living through it now, it's a terrible disease, that's all I say. Best wishes to David.

I was sadden when I heard the news, I watched The Partridge Family when I was young. Back then I was not fond of David, the teennie bopper roll he played was a eye roller to me. It was years latter I learned that he hated the roll too, he wanted to be more serious, what he really liked was music like Hendricks, The Who, etc. I grew to respect him, and felt sorry he was trapped in a roll he hated, but was mostly kind to his fans.

God bless you David, you have my prayers.

Oh, I have to admit as far a I am concerned Danny was the star of the show, he made me LMAO!

Some shocking figures in this new report, released this week by the Alzheimer's Association.

Thanks, for the document, Snowy. It certainly is an eye opener. The fact that 2/3 are women I found interesting.

As for the expense discussed, the good thing may be that more research funding is sure to come (especially since huge global advancements currently show promising pinpoints for cause).

The downside is that there is a large movement accepted (at least here in Canada) to end one's own life in time of despair. For some that is a blessing; but, for others it is lost hope. As the population ages, I only hope that costs are not the central part of the equation to make such a decision. This is not the same as tooth removal versus repairs.

My thoughts go to those involved.

Part of that is due to women living longer than men. According to the latest adjusted census from 1990-1999, there are 67.2 men for 100 women at age 65 or higher. The higher you go, the higher the ratio of women becomes, and the higher the ratio of dementia.

So one way to fight that 2/3 figure is to do more to help prevent men from dying prematurely, mainly from heart attack.

That's for sure, arthl. Incidentally, since heart disease is common to my family on both sides, I took time to read an article that pointed out, on the average, a man peaks for a heart attack at the age of 68. YMMV. Phew! I missed that.

You'd be wise to maintain your vigil, FSB -- at our age, a stroke is always a possibility.

Yeah. Things like that are a surprise when it happens to someone else; but, it lurks in the shadows and we never expect it when it happens to us as well.

Meanwhile, Mrs. FSB just gave me a homemade butter tart and I don't want to hurt her feelings
