Hi all,
It's me again, the guy who has been a member forever, but doesn't post much. I'm looking for any and all educated opinions on a few good amps, and maybe some suggestions.

I'm looking for a good quality lunchbox amp with few digital parts, tubes, and more than anything else, a good sound. I want to be able to get a full range of sounds, but mostly heavy distortion (I've got a good Music Man twin from the '70s that takes care of my California Clean needs). Amps I'm looking at are:

Peavey 6505 MH
Peavey Valveking MH
Fender Super Champ X2
Egnator Tweaker (No reverb is a bummer)
Bugera G-5 Infinium

Again, let me know if you have other suggestions. If any of you have these amps, a good, honest review would be great.

Thanks in advance!

You might check out a Roland Cube. No tubes but it's a pretty versatile piece of gear nonetheless.

Retro, thanks for the input. I actually like those amps a lot, a friend had one growing up and got a really mean distortion sound from it, but I'm looking for a lunchbox head. Sorry I didn't specify that in my original post. I don't really want another combo amp, and I'm not crazy about the digital effects in the Cube. I might be interested in the Katana though.

You posted no budget so I assume anything is fair game.
In the category of mini heads I'd say the Mark V - 25 is prolly the ultimate lunchbox.
The Two-Rock Cardiff in the head format would make a nice option, too!

Hey!
You didn't say a price point.
Don't blame me!

LOL

BMW-KTM,
You're right, I didn't. Lol. I'm glad you said those, and I've always been interested in a Mesa Boogie. I don't have a price point, but under $500 would be ideal. Have you ever played one? Can you tell me how you liked it?

I have two Boogies and I love them both.
One is a behemoth; the Road King head and a 412 cab.
The other is much more manageable; the .50 Calibre 112 combo.

Orange micro terror or dark terror for your dirtier needs?

I use a micro terror with matching 8" cab to practice at home, with the gain turned up i can't have the volume over 2 without annoying everybody in the house. It's not 100% valve (think only a valve pre-amp?) but I think the bigger tiny and dark terrors are, they are 7/15w switchable.

My micro terror had no trouble driving a marshall 4x12 in the shop, although to do so you had to sacrafice any hopes of playing clean.
