I've always sworn by Pro Co Lifelines, but is there something better? It seems like the old Lifelines lasted longer (almost indestructible), I think the quality is not what it used to be.

I felt like the Pro Co cables had good throughput and they lasted a long time. Do we have to choose one or the other these days? For me, reliability comes first if I must choose.

I like Mogami silver series gold tip by amphenol, decently priced and passes a clear signal w/o much impedance.

YMMV

Rodam cables, which are made in Canada, are my cable of choice when I can find them.
They're not as readily available as they once were.

I'm not much of a believer in fancy shmancy gold plated connections and conductors since the signal level that a guitar puts out is pretty low already and therefore does not require a whole lot of cable mass and surface area to transmit the signal without significant loss.

Rodam cables are my preference because of their unlimited lifetime guarantee.
They don't care if you stomped on the cable with the heel of your cowboy boot or rolled your full stack over it.
Show them your original receipt (that means you must keep it) and the store where you bought it will replace it for free if it's not working.
Rodam calls it a limited warranty but in practice it is unlimited because no store has ever questioned me or even examined or tested one when I took it back.
I used to buy them at AXE but they've stopped carrying them.

That's not why many connectors are gold plated. Gold is a far worse conductor of electricity than many other metals. Gold is popular because it doesn't corrode, so while the connection is worse to start with, it doesn't get worse than that.

In terms of conductivity and least signal loss in the connection, silver > copper > gold.

PRS (with Van Damme) makes a made in England "regular", and a "silent" cable that keeps disconnected guitar pops and hum noise away until fully inserted. Handy for switching guitars. Van Damme cables can be found at Abbey Studios, and countless others use them.

I believe I have some old lamp cord sitting around that I might . . . Naw. Never mind.

Thanks all, I'll try some of these and see if I can find what I'm looking for. The Rodam cables remind me of what Lifelines used to be.

I don't know about the goodity or reliability of this one, but at least it's high end, state of the art, expensive and red. Mad Professor Red Cable
Oh, and you still need a regular cable in addition to that.

I bet this one is really, really, REALLY good.
I mean, I bet this one has that Jimi/Stevie dead-guitar-god mojo.
For the price I would expect to have 3 drops of the blood of the Pope in every lineal foot so I could have a direct line to God and channel divine inspiration while I play.

(507 & 3042) That's how many 12' Mogami cables I could buy for the price of one of those really, really good cables and the number of years I could wait before I needed to shop again if the one I've used for 6 years broke today.

Aw, gee wiz, Matt. I'm just getting over knowing the Hypercar isn't in my driveway, and now this esoteric cable comes along. Golly, can't a guy get an even break?

Years ago I made a bunch of them with Belden 9778 cable and Switchcraft
ends - I haven't had to buy a cable in over 15 years now.
