I just recently bought a Pro Junior III. I re-tubed the preamp, and disconnected the feedback loop. The amp sounds good to me.

My question is, any of you that have done a speaker swap, did you find it highly beneficial?

I know the general consensus is, if you like the way it is don't change it. I'm just curious to hear the opinions of those who have swapped speakers.

Mike, would you say it's noticeably better?

Removing the feedback loop and installing nos preamp tubes were necessary in my opinion. I have nothing to compare speaker-wise. There's no extension cab out.

Correction: it does have a speaker out, I just don't have an extension cab or any other 10" speakers.

Yes and you can use it as a head for another cab :

I just spent the time to take the amp out of my Yamaha and use it as an extension.

The speaker inside this cab is a 12" Eminence Red White and Blues. I honestly didn't think it sounded better. It was cool, but it took on the characteristic of an Ampeg Superjet. It lost its Fenderness.

The reason I asked about speaker swapping in this amp is because I was reading a Billm article about different speakers. He mentioned that the stock Eminence really isn't so bad.

After trying this, I can see that I'd be in for another bout of tone chasing Hell that may not be worth the time and money. While one speaker doesn't speak for all, I'm thinking the loop disconnect and tube swap appears to be enough for me.

Since I had it out, I did a side by side comparison of the Pro Junior and my Blackstar HT5 (with the RWB). Even with a 12" speaker and the bass dimed on the HT, the Fender with the stock 10" made it sound like a weenie toy.

If anyone wants to chime in, please do. I'm still interested in hearing different experiences with this amp.
