Hey I'm an intermediate guitar player I've been playing for about a year, right now I have the 15w Fender mustang 1 amp that I use for bedroom practice, I can play at a decent sound level without annoying the neighbors. I don't know but I just don't if I like the sound out of my amp. I was thinking of getting a new amp. I can't spend anymore than 600 dollars and I like Blues and rock, more Hendrix style, I like the more bass and clean, tone, I really like the sound of the bassman but that's a lot more than I can afford.
I was either thinking of getting a 15w Bass breaker or a blues junior iii do any of you have any suggestions on what to get. Should I buy used? I don't know about the 007 bass-breaker, does that sound as deep as the 15w counterpart? Any advice is appreciated.

For a skosh more than $600 you should be able to find a used Deluxe Reverb re-issue. And that's a real Fender amp with all the bass response you're likely to need and none of the hum/buzz/fizz issues that those other two amps are notorious for.

Both good clean and harmonic break-up at neighbor-friendly levels is somewhat hard to achieve in a single amp. Doing as Arjay recommends and get a used DLR will certainly get you your cleans, but you may have to resort to pedals to get any blues/rock breakup, and that seldom sounds as good as tube breakup.

If the latter is important to you, you might sacrifice a little clean and get a lot more low-volume crunch by going with something like a Vox AC-15 or Marshall DSL-15. Both also have respectable 12" speakers, and will deliver much better bass than what you currently have. For $100 more, you could get a Marshall DSL-40C with a Celestion Creamback speaker. Neither have a great reverb, but if what you play is Hendrix and blues and rock, that might not be your main focus.

I don't vote for David Lee Roth but I do vote for the '65 Deluxe Reverb Re-Issue.
(winking at Art)

Other possibilities might be the Super Sonic 22, which is loosely based on the DRRI but with some added overdrive options or a '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb, which is not actually a re-issue but more of a variation on a theme.

You might have to spend a little more than your proposed budget to buy one of these in the used market but I believe you will be happier in the long run.
Being happy in the long run also means spending less money in the long run.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Thanks for all suggestions, it looks like I'm going to have to save up more to get a better overall amp for the money. Wasn't even considering these amps till now. :D Thanks for the help

So I think that I will most likely go with the fender deluxe reverb or some variation of it. Where do you guys recommend shopping for a deluxe reverb and what do you think the cheapest (and still decent) you could get it for would be? The blues junior seems like a pretty decent amp, plus its like half the price used. what are your thoughts on it. Thanks again for the help.

A miserable fizzy POS that will burn up power tubes at five times the rate of a Deluxe Reverb or a Princeton Reverb.

^^^^ Yep. What RJ said. The BJr doesn't exactly put out a lot of thump or chug. The DRRI has a much bigger sound.

check GC used amps, reverb.com
your local pawn shops, mom/pop music shops, craigslist

You should be able to find a good used DRRI for about 600-800 or less sometimes, "just be a little patient".

You wont be sorry and as already stated just add an OD pedal and blast off.

Take the '65 DRRI advice, or the '68 Custom DR. Pick up an extra shift or two to get a couple hundred more bucks and you'll be able to take your pick of decent used ones.

A Mustang III is around $300 new. I love mine. I know people that gig seriously locally with one...

I know it's not tubes, but sounds great IMO. 100 watts and 12" Celestron speaker.

Interface much much better than the I and it still does just fine at bedroom volumes... unlike most tube amps! That way you can practice using the same amp as the one you gig with! That's a benefit IMO.

Best!
