third tele in a row where cable pops out of jack way too easy, usually during a gig. who has a tip that does not involve retrofitting a flush mount jack and drilling holes in the body? please let me know.

You might try going wireless, I bought a NADY wireless getup for around 50 bucks. I can tell no differance in tone comprimise, and I dont have to fool with cables. Hope this helps........

well, I don't know if you already do this, but loop the cable up through the strap (on the bottom where the strap is connected to the body) then plug it in, sorry if this didn't make alot of sense, if you need a better explanation, let me know.

i do route my cable thru the strap to relieve the pull but i still get the darn thing poppin out at inconvenient times. tried different cables and tightened up nut on jack, no luck so far. i get the thing working and then have to stand like a statue to make it stay put. may try the wireless route eventually but still think the thing ought to work right as factory designed. have played crappy cheapos that don't give me the same headache. love my tele though. thanks for the replies. -ernesto.

I personally don't like wireless... I prefer the cable.
It's more direct signal which equals better tone in my book.

Sounds like the contact points inside the jack are a little stretched out inside there.
If only u could reach in there and bend them together slightly...

Are you looping the cable around through your shoulder strap?
That helps to eliminate the weight of the cable from pulling it out too.

Replace the stock input jack with a Switchcraft one, and then replace the Telecaster jack cup with an Electrosocket. After these changes, I would be suprised to hear if the cord pops out...

I agree with bss that the contact has probably bent slightly away from the tip of the cable plug end. The input jack has a contact that is flat spring steel with a sort of loop at the end that engages the indentation at the tip of the cable plug. I found this picture on a repair site on the web.

This can get bent fairly easily especially if you bump the cable plug (the part hanging outside the guitar) while it is plugged in. If you are handy, and you can pop the jack out of the guitar, you should be able to bend the contact, just a little, back toward the middle of the jack to produce a tighter snap onto the end of the plug.

Yep. That little thingy is what keeps your cord in. If it doesn't, than this is probably bent away. Bend it back with your finger. Easy.
