How much is a mim std tele in the US? Was in the shop at the weekend, £503 for a tele here.

Street price is $599, plus sales tax (differs by state; average around 8.5%), so around $650 in total, which equates to £523 at today's rate.

That does not include wider rights that you get in Europe, like sellers handling warranty claims, warranties that follow the item instead of the buyer, redress rights beyond the warranty, and various other protections.
I.e. you get the better deal.

I'm surprised that there isn't much guitar production across the pond. Britain has more than its fair share of talented guitar players, produces some of the world's finest amps (Marshall, Vox, Orange, Laney), effects pedals, strings (RotoSound) and have the finest woodworker traditions in the world, and plenty of free factory space, but nobody seems to be interested in building guitars, except overseas?

I totally agree on that. Maybe, Rock and Roll isn't as popular over there? Of course you all know I'm just kidding. :P

My drums are English (and American). My keyboard is Japanese, and my Strat comes from LaLa land.

Wow I fully expected mim to be cheaper in the US. That's crazy.

As for building guitars here, seems to be a niche thing. It must be hard for a new manufacturer with a new name to even attempt to compete with Gibson, fender epiphone and Squier.

There's a guy locally, one of my friends works for him, who builds exact replicas of Brian mays red special. May also uses him for his own guitars, and the red special has been in this guys workshop a few times. I've even seen May driving round my grotty little coastal town in his white convertible mustang.

I'm not sure there will ever be another guitar manufacturer on par with the current big boys. Even PRS must have a tiny amount of share compared to Gibson and fender.

+1

Even FMIC's entry-level Squier line commands more market share than PRS.

I think it's maybe a bit wrong to compare PRS to Squier sales numbers, difference price bands for the most part, a Squier affinity is open to everybody, a PRS, evenue an SE, isn't. It'd be interesting to know how fender mim, epiphone, and PRS se guitars compare sales wise. Even so, I bet PRS will be lagging behind.

I suspect there is some price fixing involved here! There's nothing really special about a MIM tele' when compared to an Epiphone SG that goes for almost half the price! I suspect they have done a lot of analysis to determine how cheap they can go with the MIM tele' without seriously impacting American Standard sales. If the MIM tele's went for $300, it'd be really hard to pop for the "real" one, but with a price spread of $600 vs $1000, I think a lot more people will try to get the extra $400 for an American made one... just guessing, but they'd be stupid not to factor this into their strategy... and I don't think the Squires count when comparing to an American Standard.

You might have hit the jugular vein on that, Mark. Your post certainly sounds like a credible possibility, amigo.

Looks like some MIMs are coming with vintage Noiseless pups and a 12" radius....just some.

Where have you been Rumpelstiltskin (Mike)?

The MIM Deluxe has had those same features for many years now. Noiseless pups, 12" radius, push/push button to add the bridge pup.

Now they offer "Vintage Blonde" instead of the usual "Honey Blonde", but otherwise pretty-much the same guitar as usual.

Oh, I see they changed to a 2-post bridge, no gold hardware, and a large headstock.

Hi how are you ?
A long time ago I was connecting
In France, the Fender increases year by year. Mim Strat Standart is worth 500 € in 2015 and now 620 € ?!
Stable salaries here and accumulate taxes and increases!

Damn, I miss a Strat! :(

Doing good, bro'. I trust all is well with you. MIM or USA? Good and bad for both IMHO, depending on the axe. Each has its own character and mojo me thinks.
