Does anybody know if Fender will eat a 20% export tax Trump is going to impose on Mexico for the wall? Or will they force us to pay the increase.

Who knows?

Mebbe it'll be a 50% tax increase.

Better buy now.

Oh well,......... I wasn't planning on buying another MIM Jazz Bass anyway. To bad though. It may have been a good thing I acquired my Markbass amp setup too.

It's an import tax, not an export tax. Only Mexico can add an export tax on Mexican exports.
So yes, the buyer will be paying it, whether you consider the buyer Fender or the end user. Ironically, Trump is advocating more taxation of American companies and people.

I was wondering about this, when I first heard about that, as well. I usually buy Squiers, if anything, so I guess I don't have to worry about that for now.

It could be interesting how retailers will price their current stock of MIMs.

At the moment, the market is flooded with Mexican guitars. I can't foresee any scalping or gouging in such a weak business climate. However if the tax becomes reality, that situation could change.

If and when that tax is imposed, and the MIM becomes pricier than the MIA..... will that automatically make the MIM a better guitar than the MIA? Since, we'll you know, more expensive = dare I say it....better!
 :D

Speaking of Mexican instruments, I've always wanted to get one of these: Image

I'd seen one once, in some long gone, second-hand music gear shop, back in the early 90's. It's a huge SOB, and I'm not even sure if I can even play it right away, but it would be fun to try. I know they're tuned ADGCEA, at least.

I believe the instrument is known as a "guitarron" and it's a fairly common sight within traditional mariachi bands. Sonically, it sounds similar to a baritone guitar.
