That's a great find and conversation piece, Jim. Thanks, for sharing that with us here. Let us know how it sounds after you complete your project. Wishing you and the family the best for the new year.

She was walking between the Lead and my little bro's new guitar (a bright pink shredder) and strumming them back and forth lol.

Man, time flies. I remember when she was newborn. They either grow up fast, that's for sure.

Alright, so here's my total list of mods/repairs and upgrades.

Brought to me by Tax Return®

Nut (type still in question)
Trees
Fret work (a dressing would probably be about $100, whereas a full refret would probably be around $400)
Trem arm (guitarfetish insert as well)
New lower locking hardware on the bridge
Red button kill switch in place of the jack
Move the jack to the side of the body.

Weigh in, council.

Wow, $400 for a refret? You could buy another guitar for that. Can you get by without doing that? How bad are the frets on it?

$400 is cheap for a refret. Average price in my area is around $700. The guy I've worked with for years has such an abundance of work that he undersells himself. He's been in the tech biz for 40 years now.

The frets are able to be leveled, except for the G alll up and down the neck. Literally every fret is worn flat about 80% of the way down, except the G which is probably close to 95%

The cost depends on factors like whether it's maple or rosewood and whether there are bindings, and whether it's an older guitar where the frets have to be pushed out sideways due to hooks on the tang. Yours has a maple neck, which makes it more expensive than rosewood, because of the lacquer.
Good technicians will also shim or replace the nut when changing frets, because chances are that an old worn nut will be too low for the new frets. $400 seems like a normal price in that case.

This one doesn't need nearly as much attention as the Guild did.

I factored in scoring the laquer and $@!& like that. If I did SS it'd probably run about $500. It needs a New nut already, so that's a separate cost. If I get a regular nut, it'd probably be about $60 for a hand cut one. If I do the LSR, it's about $40 for the nut and probably another $40 for install, which I believe is reasonable.

Well, I feel lucky. My frets on maple were nicely dressed recently by a pro at L&M (large music chain). Here north of the border it came in at under $100. I guess they like me. :P It's a common issue in this location with the dry humidity. This was on a newer axe, however. I'm sure we'll used frets would be more, and a full fret job cost I don't know. YMMV (homage to Martian).

Not necessarily worried about cost at this point. Just finished product.

If I had the time, I'd do it myself. I'm sure I could find a pre cut set of frets for this thing. I'm just worried that it would sit unfinished and unplayed.
