Alright, so I've been gone quite a while so I figured I'd update.

On NYE I was out thrifting and I found myself a 1981 Ovation 1112 with OHSC. It's in fantastic shape, minus a crack in the top, which is gonna be only $70 to repair. It was $100 out the door. It sounds and plays absolutely perfect. It has no fretwear either.

And just today I picked up a 1980 Fender Lead II with some heavy modifications. It has some unknown SD pickups installed, and a mystery bridge. It's been routed like a Stratocaster on the back side. One of the switches has been switched for a 3 position. I'm not sure what I'm getting into. I haven't plugged it In because I'm currently with the child while mom is out lol. But the bridge is branded Double Eagle. I only found that they were high end Japanese parts that faded out in the early 80s. Any info could help me. It was $325 out the door with OHSC.

My only complaint with the Lead is that it had a hideous pinup girl sticker on it, so I peeled it off.

I'll post some pics when I put her to bed.

Oh yea, I also picked up a Hofner analogue Delay for $40. Fantastic pedal. Excellent decay, good settings, really simple to use.

It sounds like you scored some cool stuff. 8) Sometimes, you can find some interesting things in thrift or junk shops. I once came a Teisco Del Rey hollowbody guitar for $200, but of course, I didn't have the money to buy it. Well, I did and I didn't. You know, those pesky things like bills and groceries. :P It would have made a magnificent feedback fuzz machine, though.

I just made sure I had my rent and utilities put away first, and I still have enough left over.

That's a pretty cool guitar. 8) I've never seen that bridge before, although I think I have that red pickup. The bridge looks like a Floyd Rose type. Is it?

Yes it is, but it's branded Double Eagle. I have no clue about it yet.

Are you going to keep it on there, or you going to swap it out? I know the Floyd type bridges can be a pain in the arse, especially when trying to restring them.

I'm keeping it. This one is deceptive. Its really simple actually. You just cut it and lock it at the saddle and it's ready to be tuned. The action is really good on it too. Only thing is, I need to swap the arm with a newer style. This one isn't removable. I know guitarfetish makes an insert that you lock in place with 2 nuts and It's a pop in/out arm.

I'm also probably gonna put an LSR roller nut/trees.

First of all, the Double Eagle. Not sold by itself, only put on very early production runs of Fernandes guitars. The cheaper later models with Floyds have 'Licensed by' on them. The originals just have the name, Double Eagle. older techs say these are second to none, even on par with the ones Floyd hand made himself.

Second, the pickups. Original Stacks by Seymour Duncan. 1986. Not much info on the solid red cover though, at least from my googling.

Congrats, Jim.
Interesting find.
Hope you're still finding time to play now that you're a pop.

My daughter is fascinated by all of it. I usually drum with her on my knee and let her swing with a pair of chop sticks.

She was walking between the Lead and my little bro's new guitar (a bright pink shredder) and strumming them back and forth lol.

What do you guys think of an LSR roller nut, trees, and a red button kill switch with the jack mounted to the side of the body with a square mounting plate?

Mainly asking about the nut.

There are people who dislike the LSR nut but I'm not one of them.
I think it does help tuning stability.
One of the complaints I have seen people make are that the balls deform under pressure.
I have had a few guitars with the LSR, including my number one, which I have owned since 1998 and have played more than all my other guitars combined and have never had an issue with the nut.
I suppose it is possible newer nuts have been made with lesser materials.
I still would not hesitate to buy a guitar with the nut even if it was ultimately determined the later nuts were made from inferior materials.
They are a simple bolt on affair, easy to swap out and replacements are easy to find and not terribly expensive.
In my view, the pros outweigh the cons, if cons even do exist, other than being visibly and obviously not a regular nut.

LRS guitars tend to be made with staggered posts and no trees.

I'm wondering if a lack of trees should be the case for such an old piece that came with the standard slice of (material).

I'm not sure. I'll need more research on it.

It's a good guitar though.
