Because you can?
well they say it could be the most expensive guitar ever, and the most expensive guitar was $2,000,000 you'd be paying that much for a burnt collection of wood plastic and magnents...

somehow this doesnt' seem smart to me...

It doesn't seem smart to me either. After being in a garage for all those years what damage the fire didn't do the climate in the garage finished off.
I seriously doubt if it is playable at all.
yeah, it only because JIMI HENDRIX set it on fire... so.. if Jimi took a taco coverd it in crap and put it in the oven to the point of burning, would it be worth $2,000,000?

That is a little obserd, do i think the guitar is worth 2 millions dollars, and who knows if it is legit, i had heard a few years ago dwezzil zappa had the body of the guitar. But my point is this is a once in a lifetime thing, no one will ever dare doing something like that again, becuase it wont be the same, it will always be oh that guy wants to be jimi. This is one of the greatest and most defining moments in rock n roll hostory. This is like owning SRV"S #1 and BLackie too, those are special guitars that come from legendary moments of time, that can not ever be recreated. Would someone buy poop, dont think so, poop happens every day, storp over reacting poor boy

Do you mean like if Mugatu took a crap in tin foil, put fish hooks on the end and sold them to Queen Elizabeth as earings?

But seriously, it has to be the history behind the guitar. As one post mentions earlier, it was a historic performance in which that guitar was burned. Not many people (at least rich eccentric ones) could pass up owning a piece rock 'n roll history

true...still, that's a lot of money for a burnt peice of history...

Where did I miss that description? What I saw in the article was "slightly damaged along the neck and pickboard."

At any rate, it'll be worth that much to somebody, I'm sure.

Maybe GC will buy this one like they bought Blackie -- Pay big bucks and make your money back selling replicas to collectors.

It's not about the guitar itself. It's more the owning a piece of history thing. Not that I would ever spend that much on something like that, but hey, some people with a lot of money collect those little pieces of history.

And I doubt the whole replica thing will happen considering Hendrix's family already sued the crap out of Fender so that they can't make any more strats with direct reference to Hendrix. Unfortunate.

I think Hedrix was one of the best ever to play a Strat.

IMO, Jimi pretty much wrote the book on it.

Oh, and I guess EVH wrote the last chapter.

It happened back around 97-98. That's why the second batch of 1997 Voodoo Strats aren't technically named the Voodoo strat and don't have the Hendrix picture on the neck plate.

Just the way things are now day all these past artist familys want there piece of the action. Elvis's estate makes more money now then he did when he was alive. I would think most of us would do the same.

From a historical perspective, it is for collectors with fat wallets.

I don't think the playability matters.

This becomes a business enterprise. Guitar Center might acquire it just to have it as an asset, and then enter into an agreement with Fender to build a Tribute series replica of it so that "those who can" ( as Chet indicates), may have one in their collection.

Doc
