Got to Fender today at the NAMM show.

The only Bluetooth capable amps are the Acoustic Amps. None of the Electric Guitar Amps nor the Contemporary Digital Amps line have any Bluetooth features.

There was nothing new nor announced to replace, succeed nor update the Mustang Line. No New Mustang Firmware. No new FUSE software. Nothing to replace the now long discontinued Mustang Floor.

Hope you had a great time at NAMM, MusicLaw. What am I saying? Of course you did.
Thanks, for sharing that info on Fender.

The Bluetooth info was timely and good to know. Looks like Mustang has the corral gates open and the line appears to be in left field. It seems that either Mustang is forgotten or a replacement is in or not in the works. As for the floor it speaks for itself.

After Fender having tested the waters, it does seem odd for such a popular line (like it or not) that nothing is being done. I'm thinking something new to fill that void is in the works, but I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks, again for the update.

I realize this might sound stupid to the "stay updated at all costs" crowd but is it possible Fender have decided they have their Mustang line right where they want them to be, selling well and don't mess with it?

Or is that just foolish old geezer talk?

I'm just saying that some other amp lines go years with little to no changes, presumably because they work well, are selling well and are making an acceptable profit margin for Fender.

Or, maybe they've been busy reorganizing the MIA guitars and basses and will get to amps soon.

It probably is, given that FUSE, which is required to get full functionality out of the Mustang I and II amps, is so old that the software doesn't work on many modern computers, and the underlying technology (Silverlight) having been deprecated by Microsoft for a couple of years now.

Fender's CEO Andy Mooney also said there would be new amp technologies on the way, including Bluetooth.

Of course, Fender is going to continue selling Mustangs as long as the profit on sales exceed the production and support costs, and they don't have any competing product that would give larger profits.
But there are so many other cheap consumerist amps out there today, so the writing is on the wall.

Personally, I count buying a Mustang II possibly the worst guitar related purchase I've ever made, so I won't see its demise as a loss. Others love it, but I consider it the worst amp I've ever played. Coincidentally, I also consider Ford Mustang the worst "sports" car I've ever driven, and a real mustang the worst horse I've ever ridden. I've never played the short scale Mustang guitar, but given the track record with the name...
I respect that others love the Mustang (and Mustang and mustang) though. Good for them, but it's certainly not for me.

Other than my liking the amp, after owning a new 70s muscle lemon car, I'm glad they never named my Mustang IV a Charger. 8)

Interesting.
Do you know if FUSE works under OSX?
Are Apple users pooched, too?

A few more queries.
If a person bought an older used computer on the cheap that ran an older version of Windows could they still use FUSE to tweak their amps?
Is the lack of an update for FUSE keeping anyone running an older Windows from using their amps?
Would that be a viable option for continuing to use them?
Does this mean that all the forum hag's past comments, not necessarily in this thread, about them being disposable amps are actually true?
Perhaps not for the reason of reliability but due to lack of resources?
If so then my heart goes out to those who invested their time and money in that technology.
That has to suck. :(

Blue Tooth amps???
I won't even accept gassy blue glowing valves

I jest.
Bedroom, home amp. Yeah as long as you're happy. They're never gonna give you mega tone. But if you can accept what they do give as acceptable for what you want. Do it.
Better than being in my position. £1000's worth of amps and only use em for rehearsals cos the backlines provided at gigs and it's preferred I use it for quick change overs

More info on the new Bluetooth Acoustic Amps. The Bluetooth is implemented solely to allow streaming of Audio from a playback device. There is no amp control editing nor adjustments provided via Bluetooth. There are no wireless Bluetooth Instrument to Amp features.

To correct the above about the Fuse software not running on new pc's. I have mine running on a windows 10 device. In fact to make it easier to control I access it via remote terminal on an iPad wirelessly which also streams backing tracks via Bluetooth to a dongle on the aux in of the Mustang.
It's a workaround for practice until Fender release the promised Bluetooth amps.

Learn to read. What I said was:
"the software doesn't work on many modern computers"
The "m" in "many" is significant.

Anyhow, adjust your DPI to 170 or higher, and tell me how FUSE works.
It does not support high DPI scaling, and the bottom of the scaled display disappears below the non-resizeable window.

And because it's a Silverlight application, compatibility settings you make for FUSE only affects the splash pop-up, not the app itself.
I believe the lack of scaling support and new displays having high DPI was one of the reasons why Microsoft deprecated Silverlight a couple of years ago.

Here is an interesting article.
It contains at least one factual error and a couple of questionable intimations but still interesting nonetheless.

Yeah, the part where he allegedly says "And people quit electric guitars more often than acoustic ones, he said, because of the pain factor: Steel strings hurt delicate hands."

I find it hard to believe that he, being a guitar player, would make that big a mistake. Anyone who plays both can tell you that acoustic guitars are a lot harder on the fingers, and guitar teachers sometimes ask kids to try an electric instead if the pain is too much. You can have lower action on electrics, simply because you don't have to hit the strings harder to get higher volume. You can pluck softly while learning, and still be heard.

As for steel strings, acoustics have them too. It's not the bass strings that hurt tender kid fingers, it's the trebles. Unless he was thinking of classic guitars, but those are even harder on fingers due to heavier gauge for the same pitch and even higher action.
That leaves... low tension low action flamenco guitars. Granted, those are less demanding on finger tips. But normal kids starting learning on those... no. Just no.

I hope he was misquoted. Because otherwise, well, if he leads a company that makes both electric and acoustic guitars and make statements like this, I wonder what other mistakes he's making.

Kids quitting electric guitar, I think have to do with a couple of things:
- Parents not liking bad sounds at high volume.
- An electric guitar doesn't sound good as a solo instrument until you become really good. So unless you are a dedicated nerd, you need other dependable people to play with. And transportation.
- Lack of instruments made for different age groups. Yes, there are a couple of "junior" instruments, but compare it with e.g. violin, where you have 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 7/8 and 4/4 sizes. Chords that are simple for an adult can be showstoppers for small hands. So Mooney, where are the 3/4 and 1/2 and 1/4 strats? I'd think selling them at cost or even a small loss would be a long term win if it could prevent kids from giving up on guitar, right?

There are plenty of people who disagree with me in this but I always try to discourage kids from getting an electric as a first guitar. I try to steer noobs to the acoustic guitar. Less time spent trying to get a certain sound and more time spent on actually learning to play, strengthening fingers, etc.

I agree, but for a slightly different reason. With an acoustic, it's easy to play songs. And up until recently, you'd find one in every home, so no need to lug a guitar and amp, or spend time setting up. The social aspect of an acoustic guitar is near unparalleled. Grab, play, sing along, enjoy.

For those who take music more seriously and want to become solo guitarists, I recommend starting with classical guitar, because it teaches far more theory - a fundament you can build on later. And it makes switching over easier. Many of the greatest solo electric guitar players (like Malmsteen and Blackmore) started out with classic nylon strings.
