That would be nice. Here's wishing them a great time. That's why they call it Happy Hour. :D

Mooer Unveils Series of Micro Preamps

Mooer micro preamps are sonically accurate digital recreations of the preamp sections of popular tube amplifiers. We have developed these by directly analyzing real tube amplifiers using a brand-new technology to capture their sound, dynamics, and response. Each Micro Preamp comes complete with dual channels, integrated speaker cabinet simulation and dual operating modes to suit the needs of all users.

Initially we are releasing a set of 10 models, each based on a different popular tube amplifier from a range of manufacturers. These have been designed to be used with the upcoming Mooer power amp or in the effects return of any standard guitar amplifier. The speaker cab simulation allows the user to connect direct to a soundcard, powered monitor or P.A. without the need for a guitar amp or speaker cab at all.

Features:

High quality dual channel preamp
Independent 3-band EQ, gain, and volume controls for each channel
Speaker cabinet simulation on/off
Two different modes for footswitch operation: On/Off or channel A/B

The Micro Preamps will be available from official Mooer dealers and distributors worldwide at a street price of $99 USD each.

For those using modular or rack systems, those Mooer pre-amps might actually be worthwhile.

I dunno. While I can appreciate the concept and the Constitution having lived on a frigate and sailed with the wind, these amps don't blow me over mate.

I think Fender missed out with these. Perhaps, some scroll work or funkier nautical paraphernalia (such as a beautiful mermaid or King Neptune, or sirens, or a sea monster, or whale, or dolphins, etc.) could have been carved into the wooden case.

I'd rather spend the money on a boat.

Not too impressive woodworking on those either. They look very machine made, with lack of details a shipwright would have done, like mortising, dovetails and splicing rope instead of hiding the end behind a knot. I'd wager that much of that "brass" is really just plating too.

$10,000 is too much. If the amp is $2,000, novelty brass parts $500, novelty wood $500, the work another $1000 (and I'm being generous here, as it's obviously machined and not hand work), and add some profits, $5,000 would have been a better price.

A waste of dinero no matter how it's sliced.

Skip the gingerbread and the frosting and the chocolate sprinkles......I'd be ecstatic if they just built something that outlasted the warranty.

How much faith a company has in their products is generally reflected in their warranties.
Telltale signs of "not a lot of faith" include:

  • Not offering full warranties, only limited warranties.
  • In jurisdictions that allow it, the warranty doesn't follow the product but the buyer.
  • In jurisdictions where the mandated warranty terms differ, classifying their goods as consumer electronics instead of musical instruments. In that case, trust them; they're telling you exactly what you're buying.

Warranty, shmarranty......I remember buying new Fender amps back in the day that played without incident for ten, twelve, even fifteen years before they needed so much as tube. And the piddlyass warranty back then was only one year. If an established company wants to sell me a product, then it better damn well last as long as those they made in the past and upon which their reputation is (supposedly) built.

Otherwise?

I don't need 'em. I'll play the cards that I currently hold.

Then there are those gotcha warranties that say pay me now up front or pay me later with planned obsolescence because the product will likely break down.

That would be the perfect amp for where I live in Newport, RI. It would go well with my imaginary yacht that I pretend to sail in the summer. Does anyone have $20,000 I could borrow? :P
