That is a impossible question. It is like asking who was the best painter or what is the best car. Price, style of guitar, job it will be doing, desired tone, ect...

That said IMO a Martin is the best acoustic guitar manufacturer. Maybe like a Martin D-28 or a Martin OOO-42M, or a Martin OMJM.

My suggestion is to take her to a Music Store or two and try out some different Brands/Models. Find one She likes. What is the Best to one person is not to the next.

This might sound a bit funny, but I just bought a little Fender parlour guitar and I love it. I have had problems with regular sized acoustics being a bit too big. It was $180 and worth every penny in my opinion.

IMO Martin's make the best Acoustics...I love mine, but I tried a ton of them in different price ranges before I decided on a Martin, after all it doesn't really matter who makes it. The best acoustic is going to be the one that she likes the best when trying them out at the music store. If she just wants to go off name or reputation IMO that is silly, but then Martin, Taylor

I think the whole "play them till you find the right one" thing goes even more for acoustics than electrics. That's what I had to do. I even sat down with my eyes closed and had a friend pass me random acoustics so I wouldn't know what brand it was, and the right Taylor fell into my hands. (And I thought I was a Martin kind of guy). But when it's the right one, you know. The price/reputation really shouldn't matter. Unless of course, it's out of your budget. Then the best sound for your budget comes into play.

This is the guitar you want her to get. Hand made by Wayne C. Henderson from Rugby, VA. The guy is a true master! If you get the chance to buy one of his guitars, take it. He has only made about 500 of them and the waiting list is 10 years to get one!

Made from 100% Appalachia spruce and rosewood. I think he uses ebony for the fingerboards too. They are indeed works of art and absolute canons! She won't be disappointed!

For what type of music application?
In what price range?
For what level player?
How large / strength of hands?
Fingerpick or flatpick or...?
Intend to keep or may trade up?

The very best acoustic guitar, in the entire world, for each and every style, that everyone here will ALL agree on, is the Fender Strat acoustic. Best above all, and everyone knows it, and every professional and beginner in the world all hope to own one someday, since it's the very best for everything you can imagine.

There is your answer :)
