"Well it's almost expected that older guitarists will be better than younger guitarists. A kid who's a natural at guitar and has been playing for 5 years still won't be able to compare to the older people who started playing at the same age as said kid. And we are talking greatest guitarists here."

Great answer!!!

that may be true, but as an up-and-coming artist myself, i don't think it's fair that we aren't given the same consideration simply because of our age. i think we at deserve the chance to prove ourselves before someone else judges us...

The fact of the matter is, by the time a musician has 'proven' themselves to be a great guitarist, they probably won't be young anymore. I'm sure there are young people that can play songs from all the guitarists that have been listed in this thread, but it's going to take a while before they will get noticed. I just started noticing that Fruciante was amazing and he's about 37 now. Not exactly old...but almost twice my age.

wow, i didn't know that frusciante was more than twice my age... i still don't think it's fair. i think that people should be more openminded. can you just imagine the world of possibilities that would unveil? seriously, if you just give people a chance. you never know, you're next fav guitar player could be out there, but you won't give them a second glace because of their age. don't you think that that's sort of depriving yourself?

You know who I haven't heard mentioned here yet. You probably will all laugh. Ok....here it comes.....Roy Clark.

I know, the Hee Haw guy!?!? He was one hell of a guitar player. I once heard him cover "Have You Ever Loved A Woman" and his version just blew away Eric Claptons' version. Really.

I've seen him play flawless slide guitar with the sides of his shoes....yeah, while the shoes were on his feet. He just held the neck down and started sliding. It was perfect. The man deserves some props.

Another who will never get metioned here is, believe it or not, Charo. GOOCHIE GOOCHIE. She's ranked among the best flamenco guitar players in the world.

The greatest guitar players in the world aren't even in any of the popular genre's. Jazz, classical, flamenco.....loaded with brilliant musicians that would blow away anyone listed here so far.

Man, thats good stuff, those guys are some of the greatest ever along with Roy Buchanon, Danny Gatton, Pop Staples, Jim Weider,Rye Cooder, Those Country guys are awesome.

This is super hard, I have hundreds. Carlos Santana, Gary Moore, Joe Satriani, Yngwie, Neal Schon, George Benson, Albert Lee, Frank Gambale, Larry Carlton, etc,,, and a host of classical and Flamenco players etc, etc, should be there too, but these guys inspired me and the masses the most and I feel they did allot of trail blazing as well.

1. Jimi Hendrix

2. Randy Rhodes

3. Stevie Ray Vaughn

4. Pat Metheny

5. Norman Brown

i'm really liking ray toro right now... i guess that's probably owing to the fact that My Chemical Romance is my favorite band... other than that, i happened to stumble upon a couple of really promising bands... The Vintage Band and Kuda Bux... lol. Thanks for the add guys! you know who you are!
