so im saving up for a new amp. it needs to be smaller though to fit in my room, but also sound good. i have been looking at marshall micro stacks, not the new mg series but the old ones the lead 12 and 15 models. dose any one know what the difference is between them?

i have also been looking at blackheart amps. does any one have one or know what they are like?

thanks

I have been trying to figure the same thing out for myself too.

I have a Blackheart BH5-112 Combo and I love it! Great cleans and yet you can crank it up and get some nice distortion too! It is a 5 watt all tube amp so even with the volume up at 10, you aren't going to rattle the windows. But the cool thing is that you can switch it to 3 watts and have lower volume but still get some nice overdrive on your tubes. It has a 12 inch speaker so you have great lows and highs with the mids.

I debated long and hard on which amp to get and I am glad I got the Blackheart. Plus I got mine as a blemished model from Musician's Friend and got a $50.00 discount. Hardly a scratch on the thing and it sounds great. Looks brand new too!

I hope this helps.

I'm going to get a Vox AD15VT. Has a wee tube in there, all reviews I've found online have been fantastic (and plenty of examples of my guitar through one on YouTube!), the usual knobs, plus I think 15 or so pre-set sound profile settings to choose from.

my advice from what you listed as options would be the blackheart. marshall dont and never have made good solidstate amps, even their hybrid amps are useless for anything except extreme metal. I dont like modelers i used a pod witha valve power amp for live stuff for about 6months and it just didnt satisfy. Blackheart amps were started by 2 fellahs who worked for years at marshall designing amps, one of my mates swears by his (class A 2x12) and to tell the truth im thinking of selling my jcm800 to get one. Its a very good amp that seems to straddle the line of british or american sounding. Whilst not having played through it extensivley the responsivness of the amp led me to believe you could coax pretty much any sound out of it, i.e u.s crunch, sparkling clean, british 60's blues ala orange & marshall or even metal with a pedal or two. The only other advice i can give would be to try a blues jr, mark at hotrox (great shop in the uk for valves and advice and amp repair) reccomended em to me. They are jaw droppingly good but have a limited tonal capacity.

I have the Epiphone Valve jr. stack which was available before the Blackheart. The main difference between the two is that the Epi only has a volume control. Being that they are both 5 watt tube Class A amps, I can say that for a small amp they sound incredible. It would be money well spent- so my vote would be for the BlackHeart -(Tho I like the retro look of the Epi more). Hope that helps.
