I've read some of youre letters, and I think you are the people, who can tell me, small skilled guitarist  , what is the most principle differense betveen, for example, Fender and Gibson guitars? I was thinking that sutch
guitars as Fender give better sound in solo playing, but guitars like Gibson sounds better in rhytm. So is it true, and what is the differense?

Well, like comparing any two things that are different, neither is "better" than the other - to everyone. A Ford is not "better" than a GM, Coke is not "better than Pepsi, and an apple is not "better" than an orange.

It's a lot of personal preference as to what YOU want...
- to sound like
- the neck to feel like
- the pickup configs you want
- the features you're looking for
- the price point you need

If you really want to generalize, some might say...

Fenders...
- twangier tone
- more customizable
- more versatile
- better for cleans and mid gains

Gibson
- thicker tone
- more versatile
- better for mid and high gains

I agree with neither since they are both great guitars, but very different. To me, Gibsons don't feel "right" to me. They feel like a boat anchor with a basball bat sticking out the end, but many will disagree. To me a Strat is "home" - the feel, the tone, the neck, the contours of the body - it's totally me and everything about them fits me like a glove.

Think of what you want to sound like, or whose tone you'd like to have, and that can be a starting point.

Keep in mind though, that the amp provides more of the tone than the guitar. A good guitar in a cheap amp sounds cheap. A good guitar in a good amps is a HUGE difference.

very well said, i agree completely. if your trying to figure out what kind of guitar you want look at what ur favorite guitarist play. and then go to some big store like guitar center or some where like that and play a bunch of guitars. every guitar feels a bit different even if they are identical guitars. for instance two fender standard american strats can feel totally different. so you should just go and play a crap load of guitars and find one that is the most fun to play and save up and get it. and besides im always looking for an excuse to go to guitar center :D

'With dgonz on virtually everything except preferences.

Personally, 'like Fender and Gibson equally and play both weekly multiple times. And Mosrite, Ibanez and Line 6.

And absolutely agree, the 'chain' is everything.

Guitar, strings, cord, amp
.

Take one component out and you have NO sound. Mess with all those components in endless variations and permutations until you get what is right for you.

Which might well be multiple, interchangeables of all four components.

Then do the same with music. Play jazz and blues and folk and lounge and showtunes and classical and rock and surf and country and and world.

Have FUN!
