I agree with Chet, open it as long as it can be controled (edited) by someone with the same temperment as Brad. Postings can get nasty quickly and that would be a shame.

I have to agree I would like to see it open on weekends but watched. Perhaps it can be open to members on weekends and enrollment to the boards must be done Monday to Friday doing open forum hours only.

I actually like the weekends. It gives me a chance to catch up. These can be fast moving forums sometimes. The only thing that sucks is when I see something that I MUST respond to, and I can't, then I forget about it by Monday.

I'm simply okay with either choice.

Looks like folks are generally liking the idea of weekend hours for the most part, and yet I really like the fact that folks are acknowledging the negatives and 'risk factor' that accompany such a transition. I can absolutely guarantee you that this will result in more driveby spammings and drunken postings and whatnot than we've experienced in the past -- simply 'cause that type of activity tends to happen more often on weekends. (To put it bluntly, the number of inebriated individuals signing in to the forums to offer a piece of their minds is going to take an upswing. :-) )

Anyway, these are good, well thought, mature responses here, folks -- further convincing me that this community has made it to the point where we can work through a transition like this together. Let me plan on ironing out a few details on this end and I'd like to go ahead and make this happen very soon.

I would be glad to help in any way. I am retired and have plenty of spare time.

That's a great point, and much appreciated. As we open up to weekend activity the following will be more important than ever: when you see problems afoot on the forums please immediately e-mail me at ForumAdmin@fender.com, or webmaster@fender.com, or btraweek@fender.com -- whatever is easiest for you to remember. That's the best assistance folks who are going to be hanging out here regularly can provide! Also as part of this transition I'll probably be introducing some more prominent "Report Abuse" buttons so that it's crystal clear what to do when trouble surfaces.

I'm actually fine with it being closed on weekends. That way I get outside, interact with people using my speaking voice, play guitar, ect.

If the forum were to be open on
weekends,,, how about just certain
hours,,, say (just an example) from
7am to 9pm... Just a thought...

Maybe try that for a weekend,,, and see
how that works out...

I have done this several times already and will continue to do so, as I'm sure others have and will continue to do.

Wow! This thread has taken off, that's fantastic, and even more so are your comments on the matter, Brad. I purposefully put 'petition' in the title to get people's attention, to get them over here and talking on the subject. Polls generally get more interest anyway once people know they're around, but it's great to know we may not need to twist your arm over this! :D

What these forums have going for them is that they're very much more mature than many others out there, both in age of members and manner of posting. I feel after being here even my short time that the members all really want this place to work and genuinely value it, so Mods in place or not I feel any bad eggs will be very quickly weeded out. A "Report This" button however is a must, and I actually remember looking for it here on people's posts when I first joined.

I do think Cvilleira's idea that enrollments must still occur during office hours is a great one, as this will prevent immediate sign-ups and spammage by spambots or trolls. Otherwise, perhaps making enrollments possible but not immediately approved is another option - that is, you may enrol any time, but won't be able to post until a staff member approves you during work hours. This will create more workload for staff though.

Anyway, am very happy this may be happening, it will really keep things moving I think. It's very frustrating reading through posts during downtime and not being able to immediately respond with my thoughts, and being a lazy cow at the best of times I'm not organised enough to make notes and come back to them! I doubt I'm alone in this regard - well, I hope I'm not! - and as such this is a change that will really contribute to the ongoing success of these forums I'm sure, and I'm very much looking forward to it. 8)

Thanks everyone for posting your opinion on the matter! Maybe those who said a nay (Chet?) could give thoughts on why not? We've had many a yay and those reasons are clear, but some balance would help the discussion (and decisions for those making them). :)

I usually check out some sites like this when I have spare time on Saturdays--or if I'm having a lazy Saturday.

I miss not being able to check it Saturday--except to see what was posted since my last visit. I don't respond to everything I read, but sometimes you just have to. SO Saturdays would be nice.

I've kind of got used to posting during the week and reading this forum during the weekends. That said, I had been gigging on almost every weekend and in various places and haven't had a chance to even access the web at times.

Going forward, I think there are risks, as mentioned, from things getting "out of control" and I'd really hate to see it bring Brad down and tired so much that this place would need to be shutdown.
So, I'm kind of on the fence, but perhaps a trial run  for a few times might prove to see what kind of toll it takes on Brad to keep things in check.

While my vote can still go either way I will add this: Why don't we do a trial weekend or two with a limited schedule for Saturday to see how it works and then go from there. I would think something like 9-3, 12-6, or something similar would give a decent reading on how it would go.
