The neuropathy is abating a little, not completely, but I was told that it might take a few months or more.

The other side effects can also be problematic (gastro/chemofog/headaches...)

All in all though, I'm hoping for a much better year than last! I go for my first follow-up on Jan 21st and we'll see where the journey leads after that...

Hello Mike,

You have had a tough year... I applaud you for remaining so positive and never giving up on the challenge that was put upon you. You are one of many that I have met here and am grateful to have befriended.

Your recovery time of all your body had to bestow, I pray will be over soon. I look forward to only good news after your appointment on January 21st.

Be well, be safe...

Hi Mike,

You're going to improve now. You're going to feel better. Treatment takes a piece out of us, and thank God now the doctors know it and honor our situation, and at the same time we can gain some perspective. After going through all of it, we can feel a little bit like the author of Ecclesiastes. Once you've been run over by a truck, you know what it's like to be run over by a truck.

I like that. I am going to have to use that!

Mike,

The 21st is just around the corner. I am praying for a good positive outcome! I am feeling pretty good about this! Hang in there!

Keep the faith!

But the truck keeps dropping things on me when I don't expect it!
Seriously though, thanks again for the mojo. I'll be doing follow-ups until late spring/early summer. My only goal and objective for 2009 is to be declatred cancer free. Anything else is a bonus.

I communicate with several who have had similiar diagnosis and treatments. One guy was declared cancer free after months of follow-ups and scans. He then went for a scope check and they found something called a fistula...so like I said...fighting cancer is a lifelong deal...it's not something that a little chemo cures all of the time...but I still think positive and keep moving.

Mike, I can't say it any better than Barry did but as I've told you in the past you have been a great source of inspiration to me as well as to the whole forum! As always my friend prayers and cajun mojo your way!

Thanks again guys and gals! Did anyone see Patrick Swayze's chat with Babs Walters last week? (Doc reminded me of it and I watched it).

He also has a real positive attitude that he'll beat his cancer. It's great to see that attitude as it helps others (myself included) with fighting the good fight.

Since then, I heard that he's been hospitalized with pnuemonia. Another example of how chemo/cancer treatments can lower your immune system and make it very risky to take things for granted.

Again, I appreciate your positive support!

Sending peace and healing love and prayers, Mike, from cold and snowy Chicago. You already have an abundance of courage and class. We are all part of the same matter / enrgy pool in this universe.

We may even share a few atoms which were part of the same T-Rex, 130 million years ago.

Keep yourself warm and away from crowds if you can. Handwashing is very important in preventing infection.

I just got home from my 1st chemo follow up and it went pretty good. My bloodcounts are better, but still on the low side.

I told my oncologist about the tightness in the chestport area, the ongoing neuropathy and my short term memory loss problems. He said it's typical for a chemo patient after finishing the folfox treatment of chemo.

The tingling in my fingers is still pretty bad, but he said it might take from six to nine months before that goes away, but it WILL go away! They flushed the implanted mediport with saline and heparin (both sides - dual port) with both needles at the same time! :?

If I play guitar for a few hours, I have to skip the next several days because of the neuropathy in my fingertips from bending strings, so I play keyboards :)

So, my next follow-up is in 2 months, March 24th, then I'll have another two months from then and next will be be CEA bloodtests, scans and colonoscopy. All in all, he said that I'm progressing very well :)

Thanks again for your continued positive support!
