The good:
I like the thicker neck.
I like the taller frets - the medium jumbo that Fender has used so much lately are the shallowest frets of all, and don't stand up for more than a single filing, so this is welcome.
I like that they supposedly use real bone nuts now. (I say supposedly and will hold my judgement a little bit on that one, because Fender has called melamine bone before.)

The bad:
I don't like the new colors. They look dirty. There's still black, white and sunburst, but the new colors, no thanks.
I don't like the new prices. They're more expensive than the Standards were, even adjusted for inflation.

The ugly:
Most of all, I strongly dislike that you can only get them with Tim Shaw pickups. I don't want Tim Shaw pickups. I don't like them. In my opinion, they take the worst aspects of early pickups, married to modern magnets and tight winding. Others may like them, but this is still a Hobson's choice.
For me, it means the price is really $150 higher to get a decent set of pickups. That's a dealbreaker.

What's wrong with olive drab green and battleship gray?

They're oh-so-photogenic under stage lighting.

Oh, nothing, if you play in fatigues...

Here are the colors that Pantone predicts will be the hits in 2017:

It's like Fender took the two most drab colors of that chart and mixed them with dark grey to increase the gloom and grittiness.
