[quote="Brad Traweek - Fender"]Received some unfortunate news from Chet Feathers (CAFeathers) a bit earlier, and Chet gave me his blessing to go ahead and share it here:

Stumbled on to this quite by accident and I am relieved that the thread reveals your improvement as well as the tremendous support you have received from the Forum community at large.

As a very strong FYI to the Forum, the incidence of hospital acquired infections in the form of methicillin-resistant and vancomycin resistant staph aureus as well as clostridium dificiles is quite significant.

The prime mover here is handwashing. If you are ever hospitalized be vigilant that anyone who touches you has washed their hands and preferably has gloved before hand, and this includes family and friends.

My best for a continued recovery and finish with this once and for all.

Doc

Thanks! I am doing much better and have really started to get back into some of my normal activities.

The infection I had had nothing to do with cleanliness of the health care people. I do watch them closely.

Here is proof that I'm feeling better, My wife took this pic just a few minutes ago. If you look closely at the front of my shirt you can see where the tube for my drain is.

Chet,
I hope things are getting better. Somehow I missed this thread. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I was gone for a couple of weeks, too. Sorry to hear about all this, but I am very glad that you're doing better, Chet, and hope that you reach full recovery!

I'm a retired RN, handwashing is a big issue as well as universal precautions, and it gets hammered into everybody, pretty much has for at least 10 years. When I started out back in the 80's gloves were optional for starting IV's, even in textbooks! HIV and Hepatitis killed that practice. Universal precautions are just that, universal! Problem is, hospitals are full of ill people. That sounds like a 'duh' moment, but think about it. I only mention this to those who haven't had a hospital stay like Chet's.

Hope you get better soon, Chet!
