So, I just bought myself a new Zippo lighter. Had one my old man gave me when I was a teenager but lost it a couple of years ago, a former girlfriend probably kept it after a drunken night in a shady bar with me.

I got the "classic high polish chrome" regular one, the same I used to own...

These days I VERY rarely smoke, but these lighters are kind of a lucky object I like to carry around in my pocket. I just like it. Besides, I'm single again and it's quite useful to have a lighter on you to offer the ladies in bars and parties...

And they are a smart slide too!

When I use to work in an engraving/trophy shop in the late 90's, we use to sell them and engrave them, but I don't recall having one myself. I quite smoking back in 2004, so I've hadn't had much use for lighters, although they are good to have on hand for a flame source besides matches.

I have an extensive collection of vintage/relic Zippos that are etched/engraved with military, aviation, and various government agency insignia. Some all original, some of which I restored......

This is roughly half of my set.

That's pretty cool. That's the kind of stuff we use to do at the engraving shop. Well, I didn't do any engraving, but other things like building trophies, plaques, name badges, etc. Proof read and all of that.

Zippo lighters have mojo for sure Sergio. Yours looks like a nice one.

Cool collection Arjay.

As always, when it comes to collections, Arjay has some of the best.

I used Zippos for years and years but never collected them. I do have one to commemorate my last base in the USAF. I was stationed at George AFB, CA from 1967-1971 and 1979-1981.

Jerry, check out this recent addition......

I think it dates to '56 or '57. I've since restored the engraved insignia's paint and placed it on display.

Yes, I remember that one. We had an email conversation about it back in February. I cheated and checked my old emails for the date :)

Arjay, I am still on the hunt for the AETC one for ya. I got a contact in Texas trying to dig one up.

As for collections, the Zippos (Guitars and Amps) are but a couple of his collections. This guy has a few others that I personally have viewed and each one is the epitome of coolness. He certainly has led an interesting life to say the least!

I always carried a Zipppo with me. They were wind proof, and water proof. They worked!

Absolutely the most reliable lighters I've ever owned, I use mine every day about twenty or thirty times...
until death do us part..

Arjay,
I'll keep an eye out for ya down my way, any interest in Army/Navy insignia or newer military or just the vintage AF models you collect?

I have 5 but they are not part of an actual collection.
I have no real need to own 5 of them.
I just sometimes forget to take one with me when I head up north and then I have to get a new one.
Butane lighters are not allowed.

I usually buy the plain brass ones because they don't look that much different when the get scuffed and oxidized from spending months in the coin pocket of my jeans, where the chrome ones show the wear more.
Maybe one of these times when I quit the weeds, the quitting part might stick and I won't need them anymore.
I seem to be really good at quitting for 3 - 6 months.
Prolly done that at least a dozen times or more.

I don't know if they still do, but you could send your Zippo back to Bradford, PA, and Zippo would put a new wick in it, repack it, and tighten the head on it. Good as new.
