I just got a new advert from Guitar Center, advertising "Strat-A-Thon."

The cover looks like it was Photoshopped... there are guitars hanging on wall hangers (like in the store), but they seem to be mounted on speaker cabinets...

Anybody else get this?

Yes. They hang the guitars behind a cardboard wall of marshall stacks.

Your right there card board decor amps. Was in one last night could not believe how many kids were in there making noise not music. Seen one drop a American Telecaster could not believe it. Told my wife thats why I would never buy a guit from them off the wall. A lot of the new ones look used and abused. My son wanted to show me a Breedlove in the acoustic room I could not even stay in there for there were 5 yougsters in there having a jam as well not that any of them were going to buy a 2000 dollar guitar form in the climate room. We ended up going to Appalachian Bluegrass Music Shoppe.

The booklet has no prices listed for Fender prducts, only "Price Too Low To Print". I have been to 2 Guitar Centers and called 3 others and the "SALE" prices are exactly the same as the regular everday catalog prices.

I will never buy from the GC. I just don't trust them enough. I went there once, I was pumped because "Everybody says this is a great store, and is even featured on Guitar Hero!" Well I walk in, the employees are depressing (every one of them, literally), the guitars are just HANGING on a wall, music was booming overhead (isn't there something strange about loud music playing in a music store?)...

I personally buy my equipment from the Dexter Music Center. The stock is about as impressive, the gear is all very well taken care of, and the employees are very friendly. Not to mention every one of them is a professional musician. :D

That's one of the oldest tricks in the book to get you into the store. They stick to the letter of the MAP and then you have to argue tooth and nail for the case which is positively supposed to come with it but they swear up and down it doesn't.

If you want a good laugh its the place to go. Just remember your ear plugs because the loitering child guitar warriors may be out in force.

In this opinion, the child warriors are part of the place's charm. Stupid ambiance. And sometimes, there will be players who surprise the snot out of one. Granted, they are often older than eligible to vote or buy a brew, but it's part of the, "What will be there today?" ambiance.

And back to the child warriors, we may only place faith in the universe, some day, some of them may grow up to be as mellow, musical and sage as we. (Hah!)

The Villa Park Illinois CG is on this opinion okay and yes it's a big box etc etc, with all them there pluses and minuses, but no personal complaints, after shopping there a decade-plus.

I really have no problem with GC, and I have bought plenty from them, but this ad is a load of crapola for sure. I travel A LOT and it's nice to be able to drop in and pick if I haven't brought along my travel guitar. I've probably been to 40 GCs, and nobody has ever told me to move along when it was clear I wasn't going to be buying.

i only go their because i know they will have it, also, the two music stores around me have different instruments. one has fender and martin, link's has everything else ECSEPT EPIPHONE. so then i go to guitar center for 1. epiphone instruments and 2. they have fender, gibson, martin, etc.

also, don't let them do repairs. i dropped off my fender fm65dsp and still haven't gotten it back. my local store can do it in a week.

Parents use GC as a baby-sitter.
