I just saw the news. I use to watch the Brady Bunch when I was a kid. RIP, Florence. :(

Sadly, it's not just musicians that we've lost this year. :(

That's true. I saw a TV program the other night about the USS Arizona (BB39). They had a surviving crew member, who was onboard during the strike on the Arizona. Not to many of those once young men around to tell the tale of that day, any longer. When I was a young kid, there were still a few living Civil War veterans.

I remember some WW1 veterans quite well. Who knows, there might have been some Spanish American War around after I was born, but I don't remember anyone like that.

One great uncle was a WWI vet. My grandfather and his twin on the other hand were exempt because they worked for the local power company (in the national interest) and had 5 years experience. Workers in their category under 5 years were subject to the draft.

My other grandfather missed by just one year (too young). His oldest brother had 8 years in the news business and so was exempt. His next older brother just made the cut ... each area was allowed X number of auto mechanics, and my great uncle Fred was the last one granted an exemption by the Draft Board.

My grandfather, whom was my father's father, and I never met because he died before I was born, was a WW1 veteran, so was my grandfather on my mother's side who is Russian. He was also involved with the Russian Revolution and fled the country because of it's outcome, along with my grandmother.
